Unhappy 2018 E53 AMG Wagon mirrors stopped folding in when car locked?

Hey Guys,

I have a weird issue, my 2018 E53 AMG Wagon has stopped folding in the mirrors when you arm/lock the car now?

Have go into the settings and unticked and ticked the option to do that but it still doesn't respond?

Anyone else stuck this issue before?

Cheers!

There is a software update for this but yes, this does reset it until it glitches out again.

Thanks for the instructions,

I've tried them 3 times now and still no luck, the mirrors just stay in the open position.

Cheers

Strange, then you will need to go for the software update, I forgot which module needs to be updated though?

I assume you've tried cycling the mirrors manually, closing then opening them with the door switch. That's fixed it for me in the past.

It's an issue with the door module. I had the same problem in my 2019 C63, but it started early during my European Delivery trip. Resetting worked for a bit until it stopped again. They updated the door module during the first service and it's been working ever since. The W205 FL and W213 PFL share the same electric architecture.

Thanks so much forum member superswiss, yes that was indeed the module that I was trying to recall off the top of my head then.

Hey guys, I borrowed a mates Snapon Scanner and did a full scan of the car, it found passenger side (left hand front) door module errors with mirror, I ran actuator tests on both mirrors (fold in & out) and cleared codes....now working great 👍🏼 👍🏼 👍🏼 😃 😃 😃 also did the same with tailgate closing button as it stopped working and needed to be closed using the key, now also working fine again.

Thanks again for your help!

I see, good you don't have to spend time to update modules.

lazy mirrors... loose pins connection

When these glitches return again too soon... choices are to :

--A-- either solder couple pins in (both) front door modules: a 5mn job
or

--B-- have an MB specialist replace + code a new module.

Is it a typical dry joint issue that Benz seems to get?

it is actually not dry solder joint, it is missing solder joints replaced with "pressed pins".

The resulting undersized contact surface easily gets oxidized by passing high current spikes.

This technology is used for:
/Power
/GND
/CAN-Hi-Lo
/Misc

Ultimately this generates a family of gremlins acting up randomly on few selected modules.
Not ALL modules!
ECU + TCU are both built to stay reliable.

Door modules will start working better than new once soldered.

See links in my signature for DCU pics.

Wow that's awesome 👍🏼 👍🏼 👍🏼 👍🏼 thanks so much CDB

Do I need to drill out the riveted metal covers under the door cards? I know we had to do this to repair a smashed front window on my S212 wagon, is the S213 the same?

Cheers!!

Zero rivet drilling necessary here!
It's well built for quick service work

The door control module are simply hosted under the plastic liner near the top towards the front.

Sometimes the front doors have an access panel for super quick DCU removal.
