Sorry for being lost Is there an equivalent thread for 2020 GT63 RMS failure? I've had 2 (at under 60K miles) - they did it the forst time with the corresponding oil separator replacement, but the seal failed immediately after that work, they have the engine and tranny out currently and are trying a new seal.

sounds like bad installation. Just had mine replaced 2019 s63, so far so good, knock on wood, 38.5k miles. 2020 gt63 prolly same 4LTT v8.

Thans for the immediate reply! Yeah, the dealership seems like they aren't necessarily ducking responsibility for whatever failed during the first repair, and everything is being covered by extended warrantee and/or dealership. *IF* I understood correctly, it sounded like they were saying they actually were gonna use a different design seal (not quite saying "aftermarket" or whatever-- but certainly hinting at that, in my mind-- again assuming I understood at all,) and expected better result (certainly possible that that's all cover for "err, maybe we installed it wrong"- -but not the slightest idea.)

As I said, the previous repair included the separators and they felt pretty confident at the time that that would be that. It gets put back together tomorrow.

Thanks again for the reply!

To adhere to the format:

Year: 2020
Model: GT63
RMS Failure Mileage: 55K miles
Style/Frequency of Driving: daily/spirited occasionally, but no track or anything close
Original Owner: yes
Failed Before or After Warranty: after
Has it re-leaked after repair: yes
Cost to repair: warrantee covered and A LOT.
Who repaired it: dealership

they drove mine 30 miles before handing it back to me. Demand a good long drive, s, s+, and make them enter freeway. That's what they did to mine.

After the RMS + separators were done I was back in a month later as the rear seal started leaking again.

I had a independent do a inspection afterwards and it looks good so far. I've only added a couple thousand miles so I won't really know for a few months.

E63s AMG
Year: 2018
Model: E63s
RMS Failure Mileage: 56K miles
Style/Frequency of Driving: daily/spirited occasionally, but no track or anything close
Original Owner: No
Failed Before or After Warranty: before CPO expired
Has it re-leaked after repair: N/A
Cost to repair: Unkn - under repair
Who repaired it: dealership
Dealership denied covering oil seperators, per CPO coverage policy. I appealed to the dealership, who asked regional MBNA to authorize coverage, which they did.
Other issues:
Replacing motor mounts again, after replacing them last year. weak design?
Leaking thermostat housing. Coolant smell.
Leaking high pressure fuel pump. Fuel smell.
Leaking front input shaft seal.
noisy front differential.
Got hit by an uninsured motorist in the dealership's $110k EQE loaner, who ran a stop sign. A am grateful for a great SA and a good dealership!

They covered everything but a few hundred bucks in parts that the dealer thought I needed but they would not cover. I also had the transmission service done at the same time. Mercedes of Seattle did the repair. Worst part was the wait, it took them close to 7 weeks to do the job. They fought with Fidelity a lot over how much and what would be covered so, to come out of it paying a few hundred bucks for some new parts, and a transmission service for under 1K along with the deductible I was good. Dealer quote prior to the warranty was 22K for the RMS and Oil Valve Solenoid. I think Fidelity payed out around 7.5K or so. I think the bigger issue was that MB of Seattle just did not want to deal with the warranty company but whatever. It is all a big PITA, I am reminded of the old contracting adage of Fast, Cheap, Right. You have to pick two, I chose cheap and right and it took 7 weeks to do 40 hours worth of supposed work.

The alternator - starter motor was soaked with oil, so they are also replacing it under the extended warranty/

It is an emissions control gizmo, probably required due to the crazy California regulations. Just back-off a little on the emissions regulations, and the vehicles would be much less complex and much more reliable. I'm considering an older car with no emission controls, and no computers, unless it has fuel injection.
