American Muscle Diehard Converts to the Gospel of AMG

By -

Rolling through the streets of Houston in an AMG E 63 S is enough for one YouTuber to declare it ‘the best car you can buy.’

The Mercedes-AMG E 63 S is the perfect combination of raw power and supreme luxury. The E-Class is near the top of all Mercedes can do, with tons of technology not yet available on most other cars, plenty of comfort and class, and a presence fit for power brokers of all stripes. The addition of the hand-built 4.0-liter, 603-horsepower, twin-turbo V8 in the E 63 S just makes the E-Class all the more special.

Thus, it’s only fitting that one E 63 S gains converts left and right, like Riley Piper of YouTube channel RP Productions. Alongside his friend and Instagrammer Faezan Odhwani, Riley experiences the might and muscle of Instagrammer Jonathan Kobrin’s Teutonic terror.

“Today, we’re taking a look at the E 63 S,” says Piper. “This car literally does everything. You want to go fast? This has that. You want four doors? This has that, too. You want some of the newest tech in the business? This also has that.”

Piper adds that the E 63 S beats supercars all day with a zero to 60 time of three seconds, “which is insane for a sedan.” Plus, you get room for a couple more friends; can’t do that in an Audi R8.

“This is definitely not one of the most flashy cars out on the road,” Piper says, “which I think goes to this car’s advantage. It’s just very kind of subtle… it’s so unsuspecting. You would never think that this car has as much power as it does, or that it can do the things that it does.”

Piper is also impressed with the clean, modern body lines of the E 63 S, and the overall styling that lets the world know that it’s a Mercedes.

“While the exterior of this thing is super nice, the interior is what gets me, and is what I’m a complete sucker for,” says Piper. “Look at this interior. How do you compare to this? How do you know if your BMW or your Audi or your anybody, how do you compare to this?”

The answer? No one can compare their interiors to the E 63 S’s, which has a pair of 12-inch displays, a racing-inspired steering wheel wrapped in perforated leather, black wood and chrome trim pieces, high-end stereo system, the pair of bolstered buckets that move with you around the turns (and massage you during long trips), the panoramic sunroof, and so much more.

But of course, the drive is where the E 63 S truly shines.

“First impressions… visibility in this car is perfect,” says Piper. “The seats are kind of freaking me out because they’re hugging me every time we turn. It’s getting all touchy-feely with me; buy me dinner first. We’re sitting right here next to a major freeway, and there’s not much road noise, not much noise from the outside. We can’t even hear the freeway. It’s very isolated from the outside. The interior is super nice, super comfortable. Everything’s soft-touch in here.”

Odhwani then suggests Piper put the E 63 S into cruise control, which Odhwani ends up setting for him. The result turns on the AMG’s Distronic Active Steering Assist, which lets the high-performance sedan do the driving without input from Piper, much to Piper’s horror.

After some time in Comfort mode, Piper and Odhwani put the E 63 S into Sport Plus mode, bringing the twin-turbo V8 to life. The nine-speed automatic handily shifts through the gears, fluidly delivering the big ponies to the corners. Manual shifting is also a blast, throwing the duo back into their seats and causing the tires to spin a bit off the roll.

“I seriously think that this is probably one of the best cars out there that you can buy that does just a little bit of everything,” Piper says. “It’s also extremely fast. I want to say that I would take this car over pretty much everything I have driven on this channel.”

Piper is considering selling his Mustang at the moment, which he may put into either an E 63 S of his own, or the “little brother” C 63 S, which has a similar interior and layout, but for a lower price, especially on the used market. Either way, the big E 63 S has won a new convert to the Mercedes-AMG family.
