See-through Mercedes-Benz E320 Beats AMG C43

By -

It seems odd that a V6 E-class stripped of weight can give an AMG some tail lights to look at, but lo and behold.

Research into new and advanced materials is a constant among automotive manufacturers. Light weight composites, aluminum, magnesium, carbon fiber and others are all deployed in order to fight the enemy of heft.

Now, the C43 AMG isn’t exactly a heavy car, and Alex from the LegitStreetCars YouTube channel decided to race his against the see-through Mercedes from the channel WarpedPerception. What once was an E320 is now a complete shell of its former self, but Alex gives us further details; “Is the 80 horsepower advantage of the C43 enough to make a difference compared to the 600 pound advantage of the E320?”

Once the two cars are lined up, it became time to put theory into practice. Surprisingly, the see-through Mercedes E320 launches ahead and steadily pulls away. With less weight to haul around, the V6’s power rating becomes more relevant in pounds-to-horsepower ratio. Just to make sure that it wasn’t a fluke, Alex races the V6 again, and again, loses. “I don’t know how much more of this I can take guys, this is killing me that an AMG is losing to an E320, Alex says in a clearly disappointed tone.

Defeat brings about change, however, and Alex made a promise, saying, “I told you guys that if I lost or if it came close that I’d modify the C43, and I just got something in the mail.” That something was a Zex nitrous kit, which will be good enough for a 75-125 shot. His goal is to tune it correctly and have it run strong rather than spray it to the point of blowing up. Once that’s complete, we’ll see how well this car does in the 1/4 mile.
