Let’s Take a Moment to Remember the W204 C63 AMG’s Exhaust Note

I recommend you turn your volume all the way up. Then move as close to your speakers as possible. Then unleash an angry, wild rottweiler in close proximity for full effect. The old M156 V8 was truly a wonder. Contrary to the new turbo V8 found in recent AMGs, the M156 was less of an MMA fighter and more like a drunken sucker-punch at a Meshuggah concert. Not only did it scare people, but it was just awesome in every way.

In this form, we look at two C63 AMGs. Both have an iPE exhaust, which flaunts the eight cylinders in full glory.

In this video above, iPE’s exhaust valves are showcased with an example of what it sounds like with valves open and closed. Still throaty and mean with the exhaust in “quiet” mode, when the valves are opened, let’s just say the difference is not subtle. In the video below, we get more revs and even a drive-by soundoff.

Enjoy it while it lasts, because while the new turbo V8s are impressive in every way (on paper, they genuinely are better), you buy a new AMG for the way it goes, but you buy an AMG with the M156 V8 for the way it sounds.
