U.S. Market Getting A-Class, AMG GT Sedan

Mercedes trying again with an entry-level A-Class, also adding AMG GT with two more doors.

Miami was recently host to a Mercedes-Benz dealership meeting. Those in attendance were given some news about the forthcoming showroom lineup. And even though the CLA has filled in the slot of “Baby Benz” after the C-Class grew up and left the nest, the A-Class is going to hit our shores for 2018.

Platforms for the new A-Class and CLA/GLA cars will be shared. However, the A-Class will very clearly slot below the CLA. If you recall, Mercedes gave us a probable preview to the design of the new car with the “Concept A” pictured above.

Mercedes has flirted with an entry-level car more than once before, most recently with the CLA. Prices for that car started to bloat above $32,000, essentially moving it out of the price category it was originally intended for. The A-Class will aim to attract “conquest” buyers who would otherwise see a new Mercedes as out of their budget.

Furthermore, model refreshing is soon coming for the A-Class currently sold in Europe and other markets. But no other details about engines or drive lines were stated.

In other news from the meeting, Mercedes teased some info about the AMG GT sedan, confirming that it’ll go on sale in the summer of 2018.
