Unlock Comand - W211
I am trying to unlock my W211 E320 EEC (Dec 2003) comand device.
I have done the following:
1) hold simultaneously Mute+hangphone+serv buttons and then I get to the Engineering menu
2) I hold simultaneously the * + # + < buttons in order to access the "secret" menu that gives access to functionalities such as "DVD region code free", playing DVD while the car is in motion and so on.
Unfortunatly the code I have doesn't work and I can't access the menu...
Any one to help ?

The E-Class (W211) NEVER came with a DVD drive except the euro version between 2003 and 2006
The US versions can only be manipulated to play mp3's and then only after 2004.
I huess the euro version is what we are talking about
here right?

This is not entirely correct. My US 04 E320 and 05 E500 both had DVD drives. I do not believe that video was activated on these, but audio DVDs (burned with MP3s) worked just fine. I'm not sure when they switched over to CD drives in the US for the Comand, but I know my 08 E550 has no DVD and I believe this is so for the 07's also.

Well i have a Euro comand and i can play DVD but i want to play it in motion while driving, so i cannot enter the Engineer menu mode at all as i try to click mute , hung up phone and serv for many more than 50 seconds...!! but unable to get that engineer setting.

Yes, these are US Comands with DVDs, and I believe that many 04s and 05s have them. To play MP3's the 04 required a software fix that my dealer did for me. The 05 played them from day 1. The 04 was delivered Feb 04 and the 05 was delivered August 04.

2004 W211 US Comand can play DVD MP3 by software update. The update can be done by dealer. Or, if you want to do it yourself, the software update disk can be purchased at dealer parts dept for about US$10. The Disk part number for 2004 US Comand is W211 589 07 22 00 (SW-Rel 10.270 Build 13/04).
Most important, you still can unlock your Comand with this software update!!!

also, for those who can't get into engineering mode for the 03's, i just started pushing buttons after loosing feeling in my fingers from # * <, and got into it.

EU COMAND and US COMAND have different firmware and not interchangeable.
The latest software update for european COMAND part# W211 589 13 22 00 (SW-REL 21.090 30/06), but this will removed the Engineering Menu access after the update.

also, if we install this, will our settings be lost as in DVD in motion? or will the menu options just disappear, but we keep functionality

The older firmware for EU COMAND Part# W211 589 06 22 00 (SW-Rel 9.390 Build 17/04). I believe this is the last one one that still has the Engineering Menu back door enable. I might be wrong.
Even if you upgrade to the latest firmware with Engineering Menu back door remove, someone who have access to modified/hacked SDS still able to enable/disable MP3, DVD in motion, etc. Basically, no more accessible from the keypad anymore after the upgrade.

last question (I promise) - did the 17/04 SW have MP3 capability? I assume not.

Please keep this in mind before upgrade
Please also make a note that if someone trying to downgrade their COMAND from higher version of firmware to lower version(or that someone think that he/she is smarter than Mercedes for re-enable the Engineering Menu by downgrade the firmware) , that someone may find that the COMAND may become a brick after the downgrade firmware. And the COMAND will not accept any update disc at all after that.
Thus, always check to see if the current firmware on the COMAND are older or the same version of the firmware that someone planning to upgrade.

i'm looking to get both the W211 589 06 22 00 COMAND and W220 589 04 22 00 update disk.
The dealer can special order the W220 589 04 22 00 disk, but says the W211 589 06 22 00 is not available. Anybody have the disks available? I can pay for the disks and shipping, or just pay for shipping from and to.
