Yes... up in Canada you guys can use a DEI antenna extender kit that increases range to anywhere from 2000-3000 feet. Its also plug-and-play so basically there is an antenna and little adapter box with a cable. The antenna mounts on your windshield and plugs into the little adapter box and then there is a small jumper cable that plugs from the box directly into the smartkey starter. Program the remote and you are off to the races. Also the aftermarket remote kit does lock, unlock, and trunk pop as well and has 2-way capability (so you get feedback when the car starts, locks and unlocks, etc.)

here is a video showing how it works:

Cool Cool Product - availability???

Hi Rob,

nice to see your product.

Just curious as to when Automobility will be carrying your product?
I did a search on their website, no product from Mid-City engineering.
Did a Google search and nothing...
Am I able to purchase this direct?
Or could you lead me to a source up here in Vancouver, BC?

Also, does your VIM work on the GLK?

Automobility does carry our products for Canada. We have been asking them to update their site with our product info so hopefully that will be up soon. You can contact automobility at 1.888.55.START and they will put you in touch with a dealer near you. If you have any issues finding a dealer please dont hesitate to call our offices at 312.421.1114 anytime during the week and we will get you set up.

And yes we have a VIM for the GLK as well

We have an agreement with automobility that they will handle all sales in canada: you would want to call them to get the current pricing for your area. If you are coming to the US its a different story; Give us a call on monday to go over the options...

not yet: the actual starter module has been finished for some time but the plugs that make it plug-and-play are no longer available from the manufacturer... Basically mercedes used a small one-off supplier to make a very strange connector for the key cylinder module on the W220, W215, and R230 (2000-2006 S and CL, and 2003-2009 SL) and the connectors are out of production. We are currently working on having new connectors custom manufactured but it takes some time to do this.

Currently it looks like the we will have the new connectors early in 2010...

Sprinter is a regular key based system, which is transponder based, you can get a regular remote start added to that, as rob's unit is all data and will not work on that... in other words the sprinter is like everyone else except MB.

now if they came out with the IR key and I do not know about it yet, then I am a dumbarse...

but the vehicle I was driving last week was a key

also you will most likely end up giving up one of the keys so buy an extra one, it will be required for start.

actually directed makes a fault tolerant oem interface module that might work on that easier... I might try one soon, and let you know

2002 c320 mercedes

Does this 'smartkey' starter work on a 2002 c320. I've read the thread and see that 2003 w203 works, but what about 2002?

I have a friend who is a professional installer of remote starters. Is it possible to purchase the unit/instructions and have him install it?

07/2002 is the cutoff for right now.. The wiring configuration is different on eariler models and the connectors are not available yet. (but we are working on it). The smartkey starter is only available through authorized dealers but if you friend works at/has a shop then they could potentially become a dealer.

Hi Rob,
Do you have a dealer in Helsinki, Finland? If not, is it possible for any installer to install the remote start? & how much is your 'special' price for W203 (no panic button) without installation?

Another question is, (my sincere apologize if this question is not relevant) with your remote starter, is it possible to add a start button on W203 (like S Class).

Thanks
Zack

We currently do not have any dealers in Finland so now would be a great time to set one up The current uninstalled pricing on the W203 starter is still $799 US. (we were never able to get enough W203 owners together to do the promotion.)

Adding push-to-start is something we have been looking at quite a bit. It is possible to do so i would expect that we will be working on implementing it when we have a bit more time (which typically means summer)
