BRAKE Pad, Rotors, & Calipers Discussion Thread (OEM, aftermarket, etc...)
#926
The following part numbers provided by capt_paul are for the Sport package:
fronts are CMX1121C (SKU 029112) and the rears CMX779C (SKU 823453)
However, my car doesn't have the sports package so according to morse.com, i'd need CMX872 for the front (CMX779 will work for the back).
Does anybody know the Autozone SKU for CMX872?
EDIT: Just called Autozone to see if they have the rear CMX779C (SKU 823453) and the guy told me "Not available, no matter what Autozone you call they won't have it"

i have a ? i did my brakes a few weeks ago did EBC dippled slotted rotors front and rear but got hawk ceramic pads in the front found out they didnt make them for my rear so i got monroe ceramic. the whole set up is great, stops great, looks good, no squeaks but my brake pad warning light is still on b/c of the sensors. the new sensors dont fit and the old ones are too chewed up and wont fit in the new pads.... does anyone know how i can get rid of this message? any help would be great

The pads on my car are about 6 months old or so. Is it safe to just switch to the Morse pads now, or should I go with new rotors as well? Also, if I change the pads and rotors, how labor intensive is the job? Can I easily do this myself? I don't feel like getting raped at the stealership again.

Pads are a breeze if you've ever done them before.
You'll need a special tool to take off the rotor. Remove one of the front wheels & you'll see the torx bolt in the rotor. You'll need the correct torx wrench to pull this bolt. (Sorry, I only swapped pads; so I don't know the correct size)

Just to let everyone know... That part #CMX1121 is also at Advance, but branded as Friction Master (made by Morse) for $50. They also have the Friction Master ceramic rear pads, part #CMX779 for $48. I will be installing them tomorrow morning. I got them a little cheaper because I get a student discount for a car club at the school...
FINALLY FOUND THEM!!!
I went to AUTO ZONE near my house and they told me they don't carry them and they are discontinued etc...
I actually found the one's by Friction Master (Made by Morse)! I found them at KRAGEN AUTO STORE ONLINE!
Part # Front CMX1121 $49.99
Part # Rear CMX779 $47.99

I have an '04 C320 4Matic that I replaced the front rotors and pads on 11 months ago. The problem with 4Matics are the number of ceramic pads that are available are very limited. Morse pads were the only pad I could find that I could get (at Auto Zone) close by. Got my Brembo rotors at a local O'Reilly AutoParts. The first week took a little getting used to for the ceramic pads because they don't have that "edgy bite" to them. But after almost a year, I must say that I've had absolutely no issue with them or the Brembos. No squeal to date. No rotor warping/vibration to date. Oh......and NO brake dust. The only real modification I had to do in total was drill out the sensor hole in the pad very slightly to accomodate the new sensor (that I got at the local MB dealership). In all honesty, the hardest part for me every time I do front end work is getting the damn wheels off. And that's after previous times of applying anti-seize lubricant on the wheel/hub/rotor interfaces.

As a gearhead whose livelihood is earned with tools, the few dollars necessary to procure a decent infrared thermometer is merely a drop in the bucket. I’m convinced that having the proper tool for the task at hand will invariably recoup its investment many times over.
In addition to brake testing, it’s also utilized for verifying catalytic converter efficiency, establishing ATF temperature for verifying correct fluid level during transmission service, and reading tire tread heat when adjusting inflation, camber, and toe for optimum performance.
If you care to borrow mine, just let me know.

so...there are so many different items being talked about and im kinda tired and my contacts are going blurry from reading all the different 32/55/2004.5/2005/etc....lol, bottom line here is this...I have an '05 C230K SS...you say i have the fixed 2 piston set up, though my brakes def look bigger than 2 piston but i trust your knowledge since I'm not going to take mine off and look at them unless im replacing them...so I want to upgrade to AMG's, what will straight up bolt right on to my baby? c32/55, clk55/63, clk55,63???

so maybe i'll just paint them and through some ceramic's in her and then i can just replace all 4 rotors with rotora and the rear calipers with some 2-4 piston as well...

well yes that correct to a point...however to answer your question its simply stated that yes the more brake pad you have on the disk the more friction you generate thus stopping the car quicker...however overkill also has to be understood and yes the type of tires, weight, suspension aerodynamics, etc. all have a substantial effect on how you car brakes...hope that helps

shoot just play a decent racing video game and can even learn all of this there, haha...thats what first got me hooked on cars and performance factors

In reality the feel between the 2-piston and 4-piston brakes is very slight. The rotors on the 4-piston C32/C55/C320 setup is also a bit larger, so that helps fade resistance.
The key here is that even the 2-piston fixed calipers on the C230's are very very good.

yes...what you are missing is that i am agreeing with you on the fact that the 2 pistons on the c230 are indeed great...however however slight it may be the more pistons equals better braking and shorter stopping distance however slight the difference may be...its simple statics my friend...
and on that note, the faster you can lock up the wheels (to then put the stopping power to the tires) the faster you will stop...and the more friction will cause faster locking up (even though our tires will not truely lock up)...in fact what goes to prove your point even more is the fact that we have something called an ABS system on most cars today because it is relatively easy to lock a cars wheels up when hard braking...so unless you have altered that function simply locking up the tires will not play a "huge" role in all of this...
nonetheless i am agreeing with you whether or not anything i just said made any sense, haha...

o and to be clear i also agree with you on "fade and looks" of bigger brake kits...just so im clear, what you're referring to when you refer to the "feel" exactly?
