Read the thread entirely...
You can buy the bulbs on the web.
You will also need to install resistors as explained in this thread.

listen to what bnzct said... you and your friends aren't "cool" or "original." this thread has been going on for over a YEAR not a couple weeks. if you actually read the threads instead of making dumb, inane posts then maybe you'd find the answer.

you need to read the thread too, there's nothing plug and play.

you'll be waiting for someone to post a local shop as well and for you to drive over there. are you one of those luddites who's still scared of buying something online?

as a matter of fact, my daily driver happens to be an 87 vw cabriolet ..
the only place to find parts for such vehicle is online ...
i'd say i have ordered about 67 % of what i've put in it from either
ePay and some other online shops ... but things are a bit different from when you're ordering for a MB ....
1.- if the size is off, a quick chop mod and i can still use it on my VW .... the same does not apply for a MB .... if it doesnt fit, im screwed, have to ship it back .... blah blah .... you get the idea ..

read the thread, there's no plug and play... the thread even gives the bulb sizes. buying for an MB online is no different.

hey guys...i'm just still wondering...my stupidity still exists...i tried to take off two screws again..but the whole license plate light housing wont come down with it..do you change the license plate lights through getting into the trunk liner? (sorry if this is in the service/owner manual...i lost that recently...was re-sync'ing my sunroof and i misplaced it somewhere)

You were doing it correctly, you just need to pry the cover off.

Has anyone heard of sticker city?...They tint lights and cover your car in this invisible plastic wrap for protection....anyways...i was wondering maybe if i had the blue sticker/tint installed on the liscense plate lights...it might be able to look nice or something like the lexus lights.

What Do you guys think?

I think that might SLIGHTLY dim the brightness you already have, but for sure it would have a blue-ish output...worth a try right? shouldn't cost too much to put a sticker over some 3"x3" objects. if you go through with it...tell us how it comes out!

From my understand after reading this whole thread twice, LED with resistors starts out great but burn out after a period of time and replacing it with traditional filament bulb do not seem to be a popular option.

So in conclusion, is there any viable way of changing the license plate lamps to a different color?

Thanks guys.

mines burnt out my rear SAM...good thing i have a warranty
you could take the bulb out completely, and then run a wire from fuse #7 to there and connect a small LED bulb (maybe 194?)...that way it'll turn on with ignition and you will not have resistor problems..

I am still looking to get that l.e.d effect on my liscense plate lights. One of my friends with a mercedes had told me that he had tooken blue nail polish and colored over the lens of the lights. He said that it had given him the same effect as the l.e.d lights that come on a lexus liscense plate lights. Only thing is that he said it would peel off in a couple of months and go back to the same color.

What do you guys think?

nail polish?
tint film?
blue colored light bulbs?

I want the lights baddd.

No nail polish or film. The closest thing would be getting the tinted bulbs.

For the guys who just went with a FESTOON BULB....

Lately I have gone to a couple stores in my area that sell mainly parts for import cars (Honda's, Acura's, etc.) and I saw a couple Festoon Bulbs and decided that I really should get rid of these nasty yellow license plate bulbs. I bought a pair and they didn't fit...but I looked around and managed to have them fit in my interiors and wow I am really happy with that...so I went to another store and bought another pair since they seemed different sized and once again...these did not fit (poor size judgement I guess). But these fitted in my other car's interior lights as well! Yay now both my cars have nice interior lights...But I am just wondering...I read through this whole thread and for the people who went with the regular Festoon Bulb...what size is your bulb? I think i have tried 37mm already...does 39mm fit or does the 41mm size bulb fit better?
Thanks in advance.

~Chris

so did anyone ever find out about the non-LED white lights for the rear plate bulbs ??

what is the size & wattage of the stock bulb ?
and doesn't all those online automobile light places sell the same bulb but with white light ?

I think (after taking another look at some of the posts about the sizes) that what we need for the regular non-led white light bulbs is a 39mm Festoon Bulb...but I can't seem to find that size...most places sell sizes lower than that...if I find one good auction on eBay...I'll link you Saprissa...because I remember seeing one auction a while back but wasn't too sure if they would give me size I wanted because the whole auction just looked doubtful
