picked up my car. the service consultant told me that the service tech had indeed installed it incorrectly and reinstalled it. and now it works fine. they also cleaned the car (no excess lubricant and finger smudges) and filled up my gas for me

while i was there, i asked my sales guy about changes to the c-coupe for this coming year... and i came away feeling less than confident in his knowledge of my car.

Angry Panoramic roof

I've got just over 7000 miles on the car and in the past week the Pana roof has started rattling also when closing makes two rather loud clunks.

The rattling is annoying but goes away when the roof is open or the back part tilted up for ventilation. Anyone else have this and was the dealer able to fix it (the first time) ?

I've got a sedan w/ the regular sunroof, but if mine was making loud noises while closing, I think I'd leave it closed until the dealer looks at it. Could get worse and get stuck open? Maybe tilting it is OK. Just my $.02 .

Gary,
My roof started the rattle at 4000mi. It would stop if I tilted it like you say, or if I placed my hand on the rear of the glass and lightly pushed up.

It's an easy fix: tilt the glass and clean the rubber seal that runs around the perimeter of the opening. Then clean the underside of the glass panel (the black part, where it contacts the seal).

I can't comment on the loud clunks.

I took mine in for the rattle last week and was informer that there is a recall on the bellows. Once the parts come in, I will let you know if that fixes it.

Again with this recall business....?

If it was a recall, you probably would have received a notice in the mail and the recall would have been related to a safety concern.

Is it that MB service doesn't know what the difference between a recall and TSB is? Or do they believe that "recall" sounds less harsh then "technical service bulliten"?

I'm just regurgitating what the technician said to me.
Recall, TSB, whatever. I don't give a crap - as long as they fix it.

Has anybody had the problem where the cover on the rear moonroof would get "caught" during auto-open? Once in a while, the rear cover would not open or only open partway, then suddenly snap open as it gets unstuck and the springs winding the cover pull it to it's proper position. It happened for a few months, then it seemed to disappear when I mentioned it to the dealer at my next servicing. Could they have replaced a part? I have no clue, because the dealer said they found nothing.

everytime i wash the car, p.roof closing (not opening) sound is getting on my nerves.....

i have almost 8000miles on it, and it seems that p.roof's mechanism is the first thing i'll get serviced......=)

I think you're correct in the differentiation between the two. A recall is only for something that needs to be fixed immediately because it affects the safety of the vehicle. A TSB is just something that will be scheduled for a fix the next time the car is serviced.

Cheers, BT

The assimiliation has begun ...

Your car will now start to pull to the right, the engine will burn oil, and you'll get a squeak in the front end that the dealer won't be able to find.

Welcome to the club.

Mine seem to bunch up form time to time, but then after a few opening and closings (usually 5-10) the problem works itself out.

After one year of daily use my rear blind has started stopping 1/2 way when opening. It opens all the way if I push it in by hand.
I have a service A coming up in a month or so and will have it fixed then.

I have the same problem. Anytime the roof is closed, it makes all kinds of creaky noises. I am planning to complain about it when I have my first service appointment but it seems so far away!!! Maybe I'll bring it in sooner.

Woah...whaoh guys...take it easy! Try this first:

Tilt the roof up.
Grab a rag and your favorite cleaner.
Clean the rubber seal attached to the car body that runs around the perimeter of the roof opening.
Clean the underside of the sliding roof panel where it contacts the seal.
Turn the rag over and look at all the crap that you just removed.
Close the roof and enjoy the silence.

This has worked perfectly for me. I've had to clean the seal at 4000mi and again at 8000mi. I like this fix much better than having some guy tear apart the roof and replace various mechanisims.

Mine is more of a popping sound...

In my Coupe the roof area (not necessarily the panoramic sun roof) "pops".

Its almost like the A/C unit is cooling the inside and the outside surface is warmer (Austin Texas). At a certain point of temperature change, Pop!

Only notice it once per cycle of starting the car and driving around then parking.

Hey Voyager, I don't have that problem on my c230. Never creaked on me yet knock on wood. But i often grease the rails and clean around there. I noticed when i put grease on the rail and open or close the roof it is smooth as butter.

Thanks guys, I'll try cleaning it and will report if it helps. Iceman, what do you use to grease it?

mine does the -exact- same thing, except it's all over the car. the pillars, the sunroof, the center console (between the seats), etc. really annoying. i took my car into the dealer to look into this and they lubed it up but it didn't really fix much.

I took my coupe from Seattle where the temp is average 70 degrees and drove it to eastern washington where during the day it is 100 degrees . When I got back, whenever I closed the sunroof it would make a terrible noise. I took avlis's advise and cleaned the rubber seals and regreased the rails. No sound anymore

Thanks avlis

Alvis....you should write the service bulletin for MB....

I took my car in for it's A sevice, told them about the squeak and how it seems worse when hot...they said they couldn't find the problem. So I just cleaned it with MB-Bob's favorite SimpleGreen ...and that fixed it. Thanks Al...you da man!
