Not for nuthin' but I think you're supposed to spray that stuff on the INSIDE of the lamp housing. That way you don't have to clear coat it.

This started out by people using smoke paint from model shops -- I'd guess that the jap stuff you had is a take off/same formula.

Anyhow, all the folks I've seen use it on the inside.

Just $.02 worth.

BTW: where'd you get it - what's the name of the product? Pic of can?

I have Folia Tec smoke out light spray. The instructions tell you to spray on the outside of the lens housing, not the inside.

I think it'd be a good idea to spray on the inside so washing won't be of concern.

I don't know why they don't tell you to smoke the inside. Hmm...

With my experience with sprays, it is better to spray the outside. Usually the plastic is colored. Because the plastic is colored it will not get really dark by spraying the inside. Of course it will get darker but the result is maybe not what you want. If you spray too much the light will not shine through anymore.

i think they would look good on just about any color on the coupe. The w202 came with blacked out tail lights. Remember that. Capri blue would look really good. I was considering that color.

As far as spraying the inside it will be hard to get an even coat.

What about if I have whited out side lights on Brilliant Silver, would smoking the tail lights be too much of a contrast do you think?

I was seriously considering whiting out the lenses, but it's much harder to pull off than tinting them (at this point). We still have to wait until a white-out version of the taillights have been released. I think that tinting them will actually look pretty good because it'll match the black of the rear window shader. As soon as I get the money I'm gonna have my tint done.

Smoked Tail lights » A or B?
Hey crew,

As some of you know, I was supposed to smoke my tail lights to a translucent pewter silver this past weekend, but the paint ppl went to Florida for some exhibition I guess...anyways I was thinking maybe I don't smoke the entire thing, maybe I should do what Brabus did to their SL in opaque Pewter silver...what do u think?

A) Full
B) Just the reverse portion like this SL pic
