Tire Question Please
If anyone can help me with this question please. I'm looking to put a wider tire on the standard rim on my 2002 C240. I don't want to change the 55 tire height size. What is the widest tire the rim will take i.e: 215, 225 or 235/55/16 width without a problem? Thanks

on a tire, the "55" is a percentage of the width. therefore, if you get a wider tire, you will need to have a smaller aspect ratio, but the actual thickness of the tire will stay the same.

your stock tire is 205/55/16

you could probably go 225/50/16

Once again, with this setup, the overall diameter of the tire is almost the same (0.1% smaller than stock)

Thanks the reason I'm asking is that I don't want to mess up the speedometer by changing the tire height.

Tire Size Question C230 Coupe
Hey guys,
Right now im running :

225/45-17 Front
245/40-17 Back on 2005 SS Wheels

Need new tires and wheels. Was thinking about getting 18" 's :

http://www.konigwheels.com/catalog_p...ID=1&ss_id=214

With new BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2 Tires

Now .... i have checked sizes in this forum, but couldnt find limits for 18" wheels . I saw that tirerack said it would fit 255's on 18" 's on the back, but i know they dont fit on 17's (tried it, got rubbing) .

Can anybody help me out ?

Regards Spyder

Tire Size Calculator...
Here is something that you can always reference (save the link to your favorites), regardless of what size you go with.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

All you have to do is enter the OEM setup and then enter in different sizes that'll match the same rolling diameter or very close to it. So you don't have to DIY this time, according to the calculator, ideal size would be:

225/40R18 Front
255/35R18 Rear

Well, im actually trying to figure out if the size of the tire
will rub against anything if put on my car, less than if the
tire will fit the wheel.

Very useful tool though, Thank You

Okay, well, if you order the correct offset on the wheels and you get the rolling diameter that is closest to the OEM rolling diameter, you shouldn't rub at all.

The size Tire Rack is telling you I believe is the same as a c55 and should fit with no problems. And the thing you should understand is the sizes are not exactly the same in all tire brands. And the sizes are different from 17" to 18" and 19" wheels. That is why it was suggested that you use the calculator to figure it out. I run 235/35/19 front and 265/30/19 rear with no rubbing. Here is another sight to try. http://www.1010tires.com/tech.asp

Sorry.. kinda here. but....

From STFF... I found out most ppl are having this setup for sports sedan:

Front: 235/40/18 on a 18x8.5 Offset 32
Rear: 255/35/18 on a 18x9.5 Offset 35

However, IF I want to stick to the original width of 225 (Front) and 245 (Rear) in 18"s, What size rims (in width) should I got for and what offset? Would 18x8 and 18x9 fit nicely? I would like the tire fit nicely with the rims, hence better "lip protection".

thanks in advance.

Well its nice to get estimations and stuff, but i was hoping that a coupe owner with this or a similar SETUP could give me advice, because although the sedan and COUPE are a lot a like, they are very different when it comes to tire sizes.

I NEED A GOOD SETUP WITHOUT RUBBING

Now the size calculator helped with selecting right wheel and tire match,
but WILL IT FIT THE CAR WITHOUT RUBBING ?

Thanks again to all those who already took their time to comment.
Where are my coupe people ???!!! Wake up lol
Im going please help

Well, the thing is, people with coupes have been able to run the same setups as the sedans without rubbing on 19's (235/35R19 F, 265/30R19 R), so as long as you follow the proper guidelines wheels (correct offset) and tires (18 inch rolling diameter as close as possible to the 17 sport sedan wheels you're currently using), you should should have no problem with rubbing.

My main point is, do you have any problems with the 17's you are running on right now (which are made for the Sport Sedan)? If not and you get the proper offset on whichever 18's you decide to get and keep the overall rolling diameter the same, it doesn't matter if you're putting the rims on a coupe or a sedan. If you are having problems with rubbing on the current 17's, then I really can't be anymore help. If not, then the information many people have provided should work WITHOUT rubbing (again, regardless of whether it's a sedan or coupe).

Now, if you're considering DROPPING the car, that's a different story.

First of all, a wheel with a 40% profile won't be very forgiving if you plan on lowering the car. Will you be lowering?

i have 19/235/35 in front ... and this is what happens when i turn the wheel all the way.

if you have 40 in the back ... you should have 45 in front. imagine how much rubbing you would have just in front and not even turning the wheel all the way.
