C200K gear wont engaged

Hi all,

I have a probl with my C200K M271 engine. When I engage to Reverse or Drive, the meters show the R and D sign but my gearbox just dont seem to engage. It sometimes engage and when it engage, it will wont fine for a while and when the car stop at traffic light, it will disengagge the gearbox. Anyone have this sililar prob. Note: When the gearbox is disenggage, the manual gear change wont work meaning, you can select the gears manually. The shop told me to replace the tranny but i doubt is the tranny. Any ideas?
TQ

Very first thing to check is the fluid level in the tranny. When last was the tranny serviced & fluid & filter changed?

Fluid in tranny is ok. Service and filter changed 2 month back. I read somewhere could be the solenoid not permiting the pressure into the torque converter? There is no leak on the tranny.

Sounds like a valve body (including solenoids) or conductor plate issue in the transmission. This is not DIY unless you are competent to do a partial rebuild. This does not mean tranny replacement but certainly repair. You need to take the vehicle to a good transmission place that knows the 722.6 transmission. The hydraulics in the system are not pressurising.

There is an outside chance that this is the TCU bushing leaking but the symptoms are not typical.

What mileage on the car?

Mileage on car is about 105,000km. This morning when i drove to work, it work fine until I stop for breakfast and it stall. I can rebuilt the gb myself and I will diagnose with the Star C3 later. Anyway to test the conductor plate integrity and solenoid before purchasing a new one?
I feel when I leave the car a while the tranny can engage for about 3 mins then slip. I also suspect the conductor plate gave way. What u guys think? High change for the conductor plate giving problem related to my syptoms? I can use the manual 4,3,2,1 when that happen.
Thanks a million for all of your reply. TQ

It's very low mileage for 722.6 trouble but **** happens. Get it on a Star. It should show you what's going on.

Was there any sign of trouble at the service? s/b every 60,000Km. Any sign of crap on the filter. I've known high mileage cars gum up all the hydraulic & cooler lines but that was because they had not been serviced for 250,000Km.

Another thought. Is it going into limp mode?? One of the limp conditions gives you no drive?

Pleased you are able to work on it yourself. You will save a ton of money!

Thanks Glyn for your reply. Yeh..relatively low mileage for this to happen. My car i service regularly. Will get a Star C3 to diagnose later. TQ
