C320 (Aftermarket)
My Unknown W203 C Class
Hello everyone still trying to solve my merc's identity, first thought it was a C240 thru the VIN but turned out that could be wrong since its been tampered with. Now still looking at it for it might be a C320 or a C240.....will do a test drive soon to clock the seconds. Here's my evolution though, i am in Pakistan right now and here is where my C Class lives, in the city of karachi. In this country we only have C180K, C200K and a few C230K......C240s,C280s,C320s,C350s are not available here in this country, only 2 C240s were imported to the whole country and a few C280s and never heard of C320s or C350s here. I am hoping that i have the first C320 in my country.I am posting a few "after" pics, everyone knows the "before" pics since it is a regular 203 and everyone knows how a stock 203 looks like.....still have alot of mods to do.
I am only being alowed to upload 6 images!!!!! it wont let me upload more....
Current mods on my unknown C Class.
-CF roof wrap
-Clear Headlights
-17" AMG light weight alloys
-B&G lowering springs
-AMG exhaust tips
-3 Fin Grille
-LED city lights
I am going to tint the front lights blue and smoke the rear lights in the coming days.

When I try & look beneath the changes I think this is a South African built C240 RHD for the Japanese market. We also built RHD models for the UK, Australia, New Zealand etc. It's VIN is in our series as well. The C240 was available in SA with full Thermotronic HVAC etc etc. It was only in the US package system that some of the premium stuff was only available in the 320. ROW you could have it all on any model. I don't think any 320's ever went to Japan.

The bumper plastics are wierd. Rear is either distorted or aftermarket - I think distorted. Looks as though it has had a nose shunt. Bonnet, bumper & headlight fit is all over the place. It has a US rear number plate surround with an aftermarket chrome handle. The Parktronic/PDC is aftermarket. The side skirts are standard Elegance & Classic although they appear damaged. The Bi Xenons have been fitted at a later stage & have no self leveling or headlight washers.
Here is my late 2003 SA built C240 Elegance.

No - C240 is a 2.6 litre V6. Same engine with different bore & stroke. They look identical.

If you think you have the wrong VIN and have no sticker ... You can find another place that has the VIN.
Look at the passenger side ... take the sit all the way back.
You can identify a place where the carpet can be pulled a bit and below that there's the VIN of your merc embedded at the metal below ...
That will verify what you need ...

Akber! Good to see you posting again.
You’re still unsure of its pedigree? Could have sworn you said yours was a C240.
Which VIN has “been tampered with” on yours? It’s stamped on the cowl, underneath a front seat, and several other places about the shell.
You’ll also find an engine number atop the rear of the block, where it abuts the transmission’s bellhousing.
They’re both easy enough to research and verify. From any continent. :)

haha a C240 over here is like a pagani zonda in the States.....you know they are here but when will u ever run into one??? GOD knows. I have surpassed C180's, C200's and C230's but that doesn't answer my question if its a 2.6 or 3.2

2 more things i like to add guys. When reading the owners manual it said that C320s came standard with memory seat, adjustable steering, auto climate, premium sound etc etc. C240s didn't come with those and were optional. My car has all the features but has no sun roof and instead of leather seats, i have fabric or clothed seats. So could this partially solve the issue? but then again i am going to do a test drive in a while and will post the end results to see how fast it really is.
Now another thing to add, it has been 3 days since i lowered my car about 1.5 front and 1.5 rear and i didn't see much difference at all and checked BMW, mustang and other forums and found out that springs take time to settle and you have to drive the car about 100-300 miles before the car fully sits low. I have only driven about 50-60 miles since lowering.....

MBWorld Fanatic!
Is it feasible to measure the stroke of the piston by taking out a plug & placing a piece of measured wire down the hole , then rotate the engine slowly BDC to TDC?
Then compare with the specs of either car .
A compression check may give you the answer too?

JC - It is difficult on these twin plug per cylinder engines but not impossible to check stroke.

this is probably dumb but how about checking the serpentine belt? the c320 serpentine belt layout differs from the c240 The manual that came with my car has the positioning of the belt with pictures and it clearly shows the lay out for c320 and c240............just a thought.
