or...
maybe...
carputer?

cost so far, $10 + camera cost around $150. so in total, less than $200 for the rear-view camera. i also can add rca input select for extra $20 and i'll have extra aux input in glove box.
can not get any better than this.
Cool, post the picture of connector that's works. This will be easy mod for everybody.
To show this, car need to be in reverse gear. We need to figure out to get AUX video in without "check entire surroundings" wording.

BLUE RAY PLAYER!
there are couple issues with that. AUX input screen will only pop up when the gear is in reverse. I need to find out how to enable AUX (select AUX input from navi screen) while the car is parked. After that, if you want to play blue ray player while driving, you need to enable VIM somehow.

I'll post pic of connector when I get home today.
Also, I will write up full DIY when I am done with rear-view camera. I already placed an order for Kenwood CCD-2000, it should be here next week. I am hoping to come up with DIY by next weekend.

I have found it on one german forum:

A2048200797 Kamera
A0375456528 Buchsengehäuse RUECKFAHRKAMERA4-PIN MQS;B84/3
A0165454126 Kontaktfeder 0.25-0.5 MM2 MQS
A2047400993 Griffleiste mit Kameraaussparung
A2044406606 oder A2044406706 Leitungssatz Rückfahrkamera

Unfortunately I don't speak german so I can't translate it to english. Probably the first one is a MB backup camera.

the connector looks like this: (see pic below).. RCA on one end and SMB on the other. I found out about the update situation we talked about on the other forum... the engineering menu is present on mitsubshi units firmware up to 259... after 259 its disabled. (the earliest W204's had commands made by alpine). so when you take your car in for service you need to tell the service writer that you dont want them to run any updates.

thank you very much for letting me know this info.
whenever I go in for service, i'll let tech know not to update the firmware.
also, thank you for posting pic of connector. I like your connector more than mine how it is angled. hahaha.... stupid metal connector right beside getting in the way.
I'll post pic of my connector when I go home today.

btw, any chance to teach me the pins out for aux sound input? the light blue rectangle one.

I know, it took forever to find the right connector that fit the hole perfectly and was right angle too...

the aux plug pinouts are

8 -right side gnd
9 -right side signal
17-left side gnd
18-left side signal

Hey, try to take a pic of where the connector is connected to the unit exactly and how yours looks like. Is it simple plug and play?

Hey Rob, can I order the backup camera connector from you, you said it was 21$ right? How much would shipping be to Canada? (The quickest shipping, like next day, as I'm going on vacation on Wednesday)

Thanks!

Daniel

thank you very much for this. you just saved hours of work for me.
to enable this sound/video input when the car is parked, is there any recoding involved?

here is pic of cable I began with. it's regular antenna adapter for 02 and up VW and BMW.
I bought this cable because I knew it uses FAKRA connector at the end.
just cut one end, and you will see,

close up

i also bought RCA female plug from local electronic shop. Solder the wire and RCA plug. tada. wire is done.

back of Comand, there is green plug, and blue rectangle plug. connect the wire to the green aux video plug.

blue rectable connector is used for AUX sound input. Thanks to Rob, the pin out for this is,
8 -right side gnd
9 -right side signal
17-left side gnd
18-left side signal

I did the same, and nothing appears.

I have a 2009, C350, could they have disabled this, even if we enable it, plus I have the following when going to the sub menu's

Engineering Mode 1/2

goto 7 HU Setting
goto 7.7 HU Parameter 3/3
scroll down to #18 Rear View Camera
say not installed
click on this and get the following options

not installed
SRVC
DRVM
DRVM-PSC

tried them all no screen comes up

after I pick one is there some where to save this specifically or once I back out of the menus and go to end, it save the settings chosen ?

Also while HU Settings is see #4 Video Aux is set to OFF, I changed it to ON, but this made do difference, and still no screen shows up, when put into reverse.

Any thoughts ????

Thanks

I would really like to do this mod if possible, the camera, I can probably get from a wrecked MB, from my local body shop....

Set the SRVC option on and video aux off. Next exit from the Engineering Mode, remove your key and close the door. Wait about one minute (it is important) and than your camera should works.
