C300. milage for an oil change?

Hi guys, I have 6k on my car, and just had it serviced. I did search on my question. But I was confused to read that people say every 5k, or 8k-10k. There is quite a range in that, right? So what is the average milage for an oil change? A friend of mine even told me doing it at every 1k will give me an everlasting engine. But I think that will cost quite a lot with that frequency, since I drive at least 40miles a day, excluding the weekend.
By the way, I asked a local shop for the cost of oil change while washing my car there. They gave 100. sounds reasonable? oh. they said they would use Mobile1 synthetic.

Thanks in advance.

10k. Using full synthetic, your $100 quote is about the norm.

I just told them to use synthetic in local shop. Is there half synthetic oil change? I am sorry if it is a dumb question. I've never done these service things myself.

OK. Well, I will just ask for full synthetic to be safe.

What's the difference between the two? Is one better than the other in cold vs. warm climate?

mobil 1

0w40 synthetic
mobil 1 5w40 is spec. for diesels only.
use 0w40 keep your engine happy
your service indicator will monitor oil condition and somewhere around 10k miles tell you it's time.

Actually, your service indicator does not monitor oil condition, just time. As far as the oil change interval, it depends what type of driving you do. If you do a lot of short trips (say under 5 miles) and you're dealing with a lot of stop and go traffic, I'd say every 5000 miles is when your oil should be changed. If you live somewhere with little traffic and extended drives you'll be fine with 10,000 mile intervals.

With a new engine the maintinence intervals are closer together. You can change the oil yourself with 0W-40. Mobil1 or Castrol European formula. Use the propper oil, it cost more but there are many fluids for the car that are not approved from Mb.

The dealers have been using M1 5W40 for quite a while now. M1 0W40 is also approved.

The W204 system does not monitor oil condition and the service indicator is time and mileage based only. My W203 claimed to have an oil condition sensor and after I ran a test comparing actual mileage vs time-to-change by the display, I concluded it was of zero value.

MB says, change the recommended synthetic oil at 10K miles provided the OE fleece filter (or equivalent) is used.

It doesn't, the facelift C-class 05+ lacks that feature. The car does have the actual menu to reset the service indicator so I'm sure the car is able to check the oil level and and life, but the car isn't coded, well it would be the SAM isn't coded for it. The uncle has a 2004 W209 CLK designo and it can check for the oil level and life.

M1 5W40

all current mb information states M1 5W40 229.51 mb spec is approved for diesels only.
Mobil 1 Formula 0W-40
Mobil 1 SuperSyn European Car Formula 0W-40
Castrol Syntec European Formula 0W-30*
Pennzoil European Formula Ultra 5W-30*
Quaker State European Formula Ultra 5W-30*
ELF Excellium 229.5 5W-30*
Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5W-40*1 229.51 (Diesel only)
Valvoline SynPower MST 5W-30*1 (Diesel only)
ELF Solaris LSX 5W-30*1 (Diesel only)
229.51 is only approved for diesel engines.
* not for use in AMG
This from mb fasb list 2005 to present
and the recently updated 2010 fasb M272 engine 272 229.5 0W-40
Did they change it again and not inform me?
Didn't know they replaced the B40 oil monitor with the S43 switch, Thanks

Did your dealer tell you to change oil every 20k kms? 10k miles=16k kms, is it right? Ohlord said there would be reminder on dash for the oil change. It sounds like a no brainer to me. So if you are not sure, you can watch for that.

Thanks for the information. Did you mean that I can use the oil that were not listed as Diesel only?

0w40

Mobil 1 0w40 is the safest bet since it is easy to obtain in most markets and meets 229.5 MB spec.Which is MB approved for M272 engine.
0w30 castrol is 229.5 also but it is meant for cold climates starts down to -40f
I know the dealers had switched for a time to saying the 229.51 was also approved but that has changed.(me thinks)
as you can see even the pennzoil chart shows 229.5 in 5w30 again a cold weather oil
and shows spec 229.51 as a diesel oil low ash and different
http://matrixsyntheticoils.com/datas...NUM%20EURO.pdf
Get yourself a mitivac suck the oil out when the dash tells you to replace the fleece filter www.autohausaz.com reset the Maint counter.

Thanks ohlord. It is very helpful. I kept everything into a note. Now I just wait for the oil change indicator lighten up.

MB has now standardized at 10K miles for all W204s except the C63.

Speakerz

you can access the miles to next service from the menu function.
Should be in your manual
or somebody here can tell you.
I can send you a link to the reset procedure or how to pull up the menu or an online manual if you don't have one.

Notwithstanding MBUSA’s proclivity toward reducing available consumables on hand at its dealerships, the typically-stocked Mobil 1 5W-40 ESP Formula M oil is, in fact, blended specifically for CI engine requirements. Consult a competent tribologist should you feel the need for additional clarification.

Curious that AMG continues to profess it’s appropriate for use in their M156 iterations, particularly after Affalterbach’s wizards pissed away many a € on (legitimate) warranty replacement claims for undue hydraulic follower wear and other faulty lubrication-induced (piston-to-cylinder) noises. Mine have done rather well with various OTC HTHS formulations, what with their additional dose of EPA-approved Phosphorus/Zinc and all. ymmv.

Does any of it amount to a hill of beans in a pedestrian M272 that’s soon destined to be sent downstream? No.

Read this - Mobil 1 0W-40 is the better formulation. I would change all M272 engines at 10,000 miles in line with ROW 15,000Km interval.
