LOL
To me it's still better than the amg badge they're slapping on the the new c450s, c43 and shiet. They're just giving it out at that point. I could careless about what Amg components are in those car. They seem too try hard to me.
I only hate when people insist their model is a 63 or a m3/m5 whatever car.
[edit] omg Amg Eric is wayyy to funny. Dude needs to chill lol

This whole discussion came up on the bimmer forums with the E36 M3. I had a real M3 and paid good money for it in my mid-20s, but I could care less if someone had an //M badge on their 325is or 318is (which many did). I just worry about myself. Would I ever put a badge on the car that replicated another model? Hell no. But that's just me. Your car looks sweet, OP.

Honestly, remove the badge. Nice car, but it's not an AMG, you want an AMG, go buy an AMG, pay for it, work for it. Don't up-badge a vehicle to one you can't afford so people can think it's an AMG. It's like badging a 335i to an M3 by getting a tune. It's pointless. It's just you trying to impress people by thinking its an AMG to not so car savvy people..

just because YOUR idea of an AMG is (currently) a twin-turbo V8, doesn't mean when MB rolls out a car that is wholly branded AMG that it's "not real"
by your definition, then, S550, SL550, CLS550, etc...are ALL AMG! everybody should go throw a badge on there and call it a day.
the AMG C43 not only has the powertrain, but the chassis tuning that AMG puts on other AMG models.
the only thing it doesnt have is a "hand built" engine, which they would never do on a car that's aimed for a more mass market.
this is the way MB is going, sorry if your opinions dont line up with reality
but yes this thread has been dead since OP's first post

There's nothing wrong with posting on this thread and having this debate. Without debate and discussion we are all lost.
I considered a couple things with the OP:
1) he really does like the simple aesthetic of the Amg badge and hence applied it to his c300.
2) he has an inferiority complex and though claims he doesn't want to project that it's a "true amg" ... He really does want to misrepresent his car as an Amg for any number of common reasons why a person would do that.
B) but then why would he post that here on this forum for no other purpose than to appeal to some but expose himself to online bashing? Hence it makes me thing it's really the concept in option 1.
3) maybe 1 or 2, but had no idea that false badging would ignite this debate or knew it would and likes to anger some Amg diehards on the forum

MBWorld Fanatic!
The irony is that the very reason an AMG badge is today something to covet is precisely because of the incredible, exclusive cars the AMG name used to represent. Ten years from now the distinction between them and non AMG cars will be largely meaningless to the general public and nobody will bother up-spec'ing with the badge any more at that point.

And the subsequent irony will be that once the public that are looking to purchase a Mercedes vehicle do not distinguish any significant exclusivity or difference between an AMG and a non AMG vehicle, then any value in making AMG more accessible to the public will have been lost.
