C32 Laughed At....I Hate This
Last night, I was cruising around in the C32. I come across an EVO 8 with some nice gauges, exhaust (thats all i could tell) and gave my car a little gas. there were 4 people in the EVO and they all looked over and laughed at me. i had to seriously egg 'em on to race...and they didnt know i was seriously until i took off from a light and went a little sideways and THEN they decided to race, only to have me pull hard on them (considering there were 4 people in the car)
and then only 30 minutes later, i get the same crap from a 335i, which i find totally unexpected. sure, i understand the lack of knowledge about the AMGs from perhaps the guys with imports from Japan, but from fellow German cars? The guy was in a 335i sedan with two of his buddies and once again, laughed when i gave my car some gas. Some guy in the backseat took out his phone and im guessing tried to record what happened as he was laughing too. He had no idea how to race and tried to make it into a cat and mouse game to make me follow him all around. the only race i got off resulted in my being ahead about 1 car despite his getting a slight jump. the speed of that thing with 3 people in it totally surprised me and when i asked the guy what he had done he goes, "what?" i asked him if he had any of those piggyback ECUs, and he goes "piggywhat?
when you guys try and race other cars (or if you do), do you guys ever get laughed at like this? is this from the lack of knowledge of the C32 AMG in general? This wasnt even an isolated incident. This has happened many times from ranging from coming from people driving cobras, camaros, srt4s, and SS Cobalts (s/c) to STIs and EVOs. The only cars i havent gotten acknowledgment from anyone without having to prove my C isnt slow (like the non AMGs everyone must think it is) with the exception of the E46 M3s and some S4s. Thats it. It just pisses me off....sorry, just had to vent
So keep it on the track, and be safe. You don't want to end up like tommygunn do you?
to my HP/TQ specs. What you just did giving gas is like a
typical young kid (in a cheesy as car) revving up to catch your
attention.
As a matter of fact yesterday on my way to work I caught a
C5 Z06 staring at my car at a red light, the guy scuffed, so
I looked at his Z06 badge w/the 405HP badge and I scuffed.
Well the guy revved up and he didn't go anywhere and I
couldn't pull on him either. I'm pretty sure he was baffled
and wonder what the hell just happened and I was driving
away with a smile from ear to ear. Oh yeah he heard my SC.

it has nothing to do with what type of car they are in, more like why bother racing, who cares? not everyone buys these cars to race...sounds like thats what the 335 guy was doing, just driving along, hence the "cat and mouse" you bring up. Probably just messing with you, wanted you to take off so he could just watch.

I never get laughed at.. but they think they are going to do destroy me.
Usually let them make the first pass or cut me off.. by the time they blink a few times.. I'm already going by and taking my spot back.
Not to date myself, but I've definitely noticed that street racing has become less common and acceptable than it used to be. I hate to say it, but a lot of folks consider it kind of white trash. Maybe revving your engine as you did was what triggered the laughs? I wasn't there but if someone pulled up next to me and revved her up, I'd shake my head -- whether the car was a C32, an Evo, an STi, or a Mustang Cobra. I won't give a lecture on how dangerous street racing is (especially with cars as fast as ours) but you know what I'm saying.

Great pic Zed. That's probably exactly how Turkel's face looked as he zipped away from the light
Even if the folks you ran across were into street racing, they wouldn't expect much from a "lowly MB C-class."
Doesn't matter - we get the last laugh every day when we drive 'em!
I agree. They weren't laughing at the car. They were laughing at you. Sorry. You didn't add a rice wing to your car, did you?

Proved his idiocy by blowing through a FULL red light about 10 seconds afterwards and almost causing an accident... F'in asshat...
I've actually gotten a lot of smile+nods from older drivers of early/mid 2000's 5/7-series and S-class sedans at stoplights as I look around; apparently our cars are recognized enough, heh.
No worries, next time they encounter an AMG, they will definately think twice before laughing
