Smartkey Starter now available for W203
We just finished testing our smartkey starter remote start on the W203 C Class and it is now available for any W203 with build dates from 07/02 and newer. The interface is also plug-and-play and will work with factory keys with or without the panic button.

post your exact build date (as it appears on the door sill plate) and i will see if yours is compatible. There may be some earlier dates that are still compatible but we havent narrowed down the exact cutoff date yet.we just know that 06/00 is not compatible and that 07/02 is.

sorry, its a new product for the W203 series so we actually didnt post a price yet. MSRP for all the mercedes starters is $999 installed but we are working on a promotion to bring that down to a much better price for mbworld members... We should have the promotional price worked out in the next day or so...

panic button still works... a short press controls the starter while holding panic sets off the alarm. to do the install you basically have to take apart the whole center stack and then unbolt and slide the center console back. once thats done you can unbolt the lower driver panel and access the rear of the ignition cylinder which is where the starter plugs in... its definately a few hours work...

Here is another video of the Smartkey Starter in action. This time on a 2003 C32 AMG... This video also shows more of the basic operation: You start or stop by pressing the panic button. The lock and unlock and trunk buttons still work even when the remote starter is running. To take over control of the vehicle and drive you simply insert the key and turn to the run position (no need to shutdown and then restart.
The vehicle is protected against theft while the starter is running: The shifter remains locked until the key is physically inserted. If someone gets in the vehicle and attempts to even press the brake to shift without inserting the key then the starter ill auto shutdown. The starter also monitors the vehicle engine rpms against runaway conditions: if the engine goes above 1800 rpms the starter will auto shutdown. The starter monitors the hood pinswitch (if equipped on the vehicle) and will only run if the hood is latched closed.

I'd like to know how do you install this before even considering of making purchase as the price is very high. I would rather spent it on the ODBII/wi-fi connector and an ipod touch so i can have boost gauge and other engine read-outs.
the only way I can be interested in this is knowing how much DIY is involved and how to program it after installing.

Frank I believe they have full installation guides on their website. I agree it is a little pricey I wouldn't touch it unless it was under 500. I was hoping it would have been
