changing the oil myself on the C43, questions.
hello all,
I have owned my C43 for 3 years now, and I change the oil on most of my other cars, I am just checking to see if there is anything special to know on this particular car,
Thanks,
Erik

Pretty straight forward. Four bolts hold in the undertray cover, so remove those and then it has some plastic snaps. I don't remember the sizes off the top of my head, but either a 14mm or 17mm on the drain plug. When you pick up a filter, some dealerships will give you a new drain plug washer, others won't. I would ask for one if they don't give you one. I think it is a good idea to replace that. Refit the drain plug and the cover. Oil filter housing is in the engine on the front right corner when viewing the engine from the front. I just use an oil filter band wrench to open it. The oil filter slides on and off, might seem hard to get off at first, but you may just have to twist it a little while you pull. There are four O-Rings on the filter assembly that can be replaced and should come in the filter box. I always get five in the box but I only see four on the assembly, so maybe I am missing something. Anyways, slide new filter on and put the filter assembly back in. Eight quarts of oil and you are good to go.

As Vardar said, go to pep boys and buy a $50ish oil extractor. Very clever way of doing it without having to hit the ground or even use two hands. I jokingly(sp?) once did it with a beer in my hand almost the whole time. You just pull the dipstick and losen the oil fill cap. 10 min later and a filter change and your done.

I change the oil on so many cars, and I have a lift in my garage, so getting dirty and under the car is not a problem - I was just concerned that the M113 engine didn't have a drain plug and required a Topsider to perform the change.
Thanks a bunch!

well I have no doubt its easier, but I really dont see the need to go spend money I dont need to spend when I have the tools I have...
as long as doing it 'the old fashioned way' isnt going to hurt anything, I'm going that route!
cant believe the darn thing takes 8 quarts! that's almost as much as my 87 190TurboDiesel.
