Cars You Won't Race, And Cars You Will

FWIW, guys. From the March, 2006 C & D comparo of the 2006 Jeep GC SRT-8 and the Chevy Trailblzer SS...
"This thing explodes when you jump on the gas. The four-wheel-drive system routes the majority of the engine's power to the rear wheels while cruising, and a clutch in the center differential can reroute power to the front wheels if the system detects that the rears are losing traction. Hit the gas, and after a barely audible chirp from the rear tires, the Jeep hurtles forward. From rest to 60 mph takes only 4.5 seconds, which is about as quick as a BMW M3 and a second quicker than the SS. The Jeep passes 100 mph in 12.0 seconds, 2.6 seconds sooner than the Chevy.Part of the Jeep's acceleration advantage comes from the quick-shifting transmission. It has a manumatic feature that allows manual gear selection, but the automatic mode worked so well that we mostly relied on it. Upshifts and downshifts are quick and much smoother than the Chevy's. As a smack-you-into-the-seat machine, the Jeep's got a definite edge.
It also handles fairly well. We're talking about a 4794-pound sport-ute with a decidedly unsportingly high center of gravity, but it's crisper in the curves than you'd think. On the skidpad, its 0.88 g outperformed the Chevy's 0.81-g score."
So, it actually does handle very well for a large SUV, but the funny thing about this older comparo is that it LOST to the Chevy Trailbalazer SS in the eyes of the C & D people.
"For sure Chevy and Jeep walked a tightrope here. How much edge are you willing to accept in return for performance? The Jeep comes with a stiff ride and not much hauling capacity. The Chevy, however, simply delivers more in hauling and features. For a few bucks less than the SRT8, the SS came with heated seats, load-leveling rear air springs, automatic climate control, and OnStar. It's a little less fun than the Jeep, but not by much. And when you factor in everything else the Chevy can do, it emerged the winner."
btw -- do they even make the Jeep GC SRT-8 any more? Wasn't it discontinued after 2007?

^ and that was with a fully stock suspension. Now add in the various mods and .9+ g's are easily attainable. The last year was 2009, I dont think they'll be making a 2010 with consideration that now its more like fiat/chrysler. I got rid of mine because the service was HORRIBLE.

QUOTE=Thericker;3653613] your pathetic 105 trap could be beaten by a well driven N/A CLK55 dwn the 1320'...[/QUOTE]
This is true. See time in sig. D/A was about 2000. I also had trap speeds nearing 107. With colder weather and tune, I hope to gain a couple more mph.
My CLK55 gains 25-26 mph in the back half as well.
I usually hit 80mph in the 1/8th and 105-107 in the 1/4.
THe jeeps are neat, but not in the same league as the C63. From more just a performance standpoint.

Anyone here with a brainstem can clearly read the slant in your cited C&D article. For example: Every Jeep from the Limited trim level and above comes with auto climate control standard.
Ubergeist is correct, we're not comparing apples to apples. Better to compare the ML63 AMG instead of the C63.
Perhaps the OP could have stated "Don't waste your time with these STOCK vehicles" or what-have-you.

As a matter of record the Barolo Red C63 did a remarkable job hanging with the red Carrera GT from 80-190 mph somewhere in Mexico of course. So close that the C63's front end had to be repainted after this trip from the gravel shower thrown up by the GT. Just a testimonial about the triple digit capabilities of a bolt on modded C63.

Went to check out a Range Rover Sport for my wife today and ended up looking at the 2010 Jaguar XFR. Sales guy was pumping it up. Anyone run up against one yet?
After an up close inspection, I was VERY dissappointed in the wheels - notice on the inner wheel where it is engraved "Jaguar Supercharged"...
How do they supercharge rims?

If you're trapping @ 105.68, it means your HP isn't that high...since your Jeep GC SRT-8 (tuned or not) is AWD, it means your AWHP is fairly low. As you MAY or MAY NOT know, your trap speed is a good indiction of HP (power) and your ET and 60ft. (your so beloved 12.58 sec. and 1.79 sec. 60ft. in the 1/4mi. ET) are good indications of how good you launch.
So, basically, your MHP tuned AWD Jeep GC SRT-8 can really get great launches (which we already know since it's AWD and has high TQ) but like we've already said, your car is a complete "flying brick" in the upper speeds and has crappy power at the end of of the 1/4mi. and beyond. A C63 AMG and SL65 should (and I mean SHOULD, not necessarily ALWAYS) WALK you every time as these MB's typically trap 114+mph in the 1/4 mi. If you're just OK at math, you'll know that 114+ >>>>>>>>>>> 105.
The ONLY reason you can run 12.58 sec. in the 1/4 mi. is because you can launch your car with a 1.79 sec. 60ft!!! The best 60ft. I ever got in my tuned BMW 335i was 1.94 sec., and I still ran 12.8 sec. @ 111mph!!!! On the hwy., my higher HP and much lighter 335i would destroy Jeep GC SRT-8's (btw - stock 335i's trap 104-105mph)!!!
Enjoy your flying brick, SON! j/k...enjoy your truck for what it is.

The 1/4 mile times seem to be a bit slow though (13.1) - what's up with that coming from a 510HP vehicle

I have a Performance Drift Box from VBOX, when I was going around the long corner the G's on the box were maxed at .88 before I would start to slide. Remember I was running on stock runflats!! If your famililar with pedders suspensions, they sponsored the event you could ask them about the 666 Jeep.

It's pointless to argue with sflgator he probably spent the entire night researching information on the SRT8 Jeep so he could come back here and pump his chest in what he believes was a "ONE UP" on us that he was too tired in the morning to iron his Juicy Coutoure shorts and polish his white alligator print point shoes. I'm sure by now he has all of dragtimes and C&D info on the Jeep saved in his MY FAVORITES so he can quickly access the information to show how superior he believes he is. I on the other hand have REAL WORLD experiences on things I post not what some magazine or internet article says!! So because a handful of C&D employees favored the TBSS over the SRT8Jeep that speaks for the entire world-LOL you must favor socialism like it can't happen soon enough. This whole thing about trap speed makes me laugh do you realize its not just trap speed you take into consideration but weight as well, trap speed is directly related to power to weight ratio If you have less weight, your trap speed will be higher a 3600lb CL63 is going to trap higher then a 5000lb srt8 Jeep, even if they make the same hp. How quick it is depends on how you can get the thing to launch. Put a 2.76 gear in something an you won't ET but you will MPH like a ****!
For example lets take a tuned only C63 time vs a tune only Jeep time and break it down to how much Crank HP there is per Pound:
Jeep: 12.58 @ 105 + 5120 weight=489 flywheel HP=10.4 hp per pound
C63 AMG: 12.89 @ 111 + 3600 weight=358 flywheel HP = 10.05 hp per pound
Now I have asked twice now for sflgator to put up or shut up so when and where lets get this settled if you dont answer go stick to your BWM 335 forums with the rest of the kiddos.

Hrm... Nope, that's a basic equation with alphanumeric expressions. I'm guessing you've never used it.
Guys, seriously... A majority of auto enthusiasts hold MB to a high standard; one which several of you fail to muster. Some of you chose MB for its advertised superiority, build quality (or what's left of it) and prestige.
When some folks speak for you the image of a successful, sentient being becomes quite tarnished.
Please, keep this topic as per the OP: "cars you will" and "cars you won't". -No more personal attacks.

Here is a vid from this past weekend of my buddies tune and intake only jeep (5120lbs) running an SL 65 AMG at Ennis, now if the OP says the SRT8 Jeeps are not worth his time he must be racing them past 100 any street race situation the jeep could of shut down and been 2 to 3 cars ahead and poked fun of the MB on the forums. In this vid jeep ran 12.86 to the SL 12.68 I consider it a good race dont you guys. Now understand I'm not on here to start trouble I just didn't like the way the OP came off saying the Jeep was a waste of his time, now unless his MB runs sub 4 second 0-60 and launches well I simply dont understand why he would dismiss them as a wast of time.

Back on topic. Off the list unless its only to 60 MPH Jeep SRT8.
How about we make a rule from here on out... STOCK FOR STOCK only.

GM and Mopar make some very nice quality vehicles. Dont forget GM and Mopar prices are FAR lower than almost any German car you can buy.
The CTSV is a quality machine and equal to the quality of a C63. Some might even argue the entire car is better. Interior quality and performance.
I would put a Hennessey Viper against an SL65 any day quality and performance. The viper will cost less and beat the living crap out of the SL.
The above car went head to head with the $1.8 million dollar Bugatti Veyron and beat it in a contest of speed from 0 to 200 mph.
Yes, I love my MB. GM's and Mopars of equal price stand right next to it though.

-Observation, not personal but I agree I should have omitted that part.
There are lots of people who either don't know or have forgotten about the former Daimler-Chrysler partnership. -Look for "DCX" labels under the hood of [almost] any 2000-2007 MB.
There's plenty of MB technology in Jeep and other Chrysler vehicles. To wit: The (present and upcoming) Grand Cherokee is based from the ML platform. While the 300c is based off of the E-class; all of which are inclusive of MBs transmissions, engines and other features.
-Propain: Do you have a link for the head-to-head you mentioned?

Stock for Stock - please. Once modded the game completely changes for many obvious reasons.
So, it may be too soon to tell. But the new XFR looks like a competitor.
Propain - how on earth did you sell your CTS-V??? No one wants mine... not even the dealer
