Drive Cycle for C63

I have searched our glorious forum and cannot find a solid answer for my '09 C63 on drive cycles. I had to swap back into the OEM manifolds and cats. Both the O2 and Cats aren't "ready".
I was going to try generic:
warm up 5min
drive 43~ 3 min
drive 51~ 3 min
coast to stop
idle 5min in park
Repeat twice

My owners manual does not have any info and my smog guy couldn't find anything either.
If you have anything more concrete I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks yo!

Isn't the OBD2 drive cycle the same for every car?

I don't think so. It seems like there are a variety of drive cycles depending on year and make according to what I have found.

I have used the BMW one and it seems to do the trick, search for BMW drive cycle it is easy to find, sometimes I have to do it 2 times.

O2 sensors are something like drive for atleast 5 minutes then 3 decelerations from atleast 85kmph for atleast 20 seconds. ( basically do that speed and let off the gas and let the motor engine brake for 20 seconds) . More than likely you have a tune and they are turned off and you'll need to flash it back to stock if you want it to set readiness.

I agree with roadtalontsi. It is likely your car is tuned and it will need to be returned to stock to activate the rear O2 sensors and set the readiness monitors.

We actually did have the car tuned back to stock (supposedly) as well. The service person said they did have some trouble re-flashing, but would not go into detail. We did use the car this morning to commute and tried some generic stuff. I will try the decel method on one of the back roads next. I will also try to find that BMW cycle previously mentioned. I appreciate the help all!

You should get any codes read and go from there.

Man i had this exact same issue.

Here in Austin TX, we have emissions testing for the state inspection. When I took it in, it failed, because I had the "not ready" message when they ran it.

I took it to Eurocharged here and was told to drive it hard and it worked.

Here's what I did: I started it up that am, let it warm up for about 4 min

Turned the heater on in the car, too (thankfully it was cold that day here)

Drive on the toll, about 20 min.--about 15 miles (70-80 mph)

Hit stop and go traffic for about 3 miles.

Took it in and it passed immediately.

Turns out that I hadn't drive in the car enough.

Hope that helps man!

UPDATE: not much has changed but we are only on day 2. We have been trying the "bmw cycle" mentioned earlier but I am wondering if that is too slow. I dropped by the Merc dealer and the service guy didn't have specifics but he did recommend just driving for over 30 miles on the highway/city each day for the week. He mentioned that the CAT and O2 took the longest to clear. We will just keep driving for the week and hopefully we can get it to clear. Thank you all again for your input.

On a side note this is a good test of the OEM headers+ cats/cat back BECKER exhaust system combo we put in to replace the full SPRINTER exhaust. So far we like the sound and performance. I believe it is mostly just sound but I have noticed that the car is more responsive to throttle input and "tighter" all around. I believe between the OEM tune and this combo I like the drive ability more than the full SPRINTER. The SPRINTER is great for track days and showing off.

Something is off. I only need to drive 5km after loading OEM file to set all the readiness monitors.

drive cycles are not the same between manufacturers or ECU suppliers. my 2003 Audi A4 Bosch Motronic 7.5 (ME7.5) hits drive cycles very quickly. GM's take a bit as they need to pressurize the gas tank and complete one or more cold starts to trigger cold start enhancement. I haven't monitored how long it takes for the Bosch Motronic 9.7 (ME9.7) for the M156 but I suspect it shouldn't be to difficult as these are highly advanced engine computers.

Our cars will pass all monitors really fast if everything is working and enabled.

I would start fresh and pull the negative off the battery for 15 min.

Get a cold start and go drive normal for 20 min and then go get gas and make sure your tank is at 75% full.

the monitor that takes the longest is the fuel evap and having the tank at 75% full works the best to get it to pass.

sounds like your ECU was not properly flashed back to original as catalytic readiness occurs very quickly on the M156. any cheap Bluetooth OBD2 device and Torque I'd you have Android should output ready, not ready, etc.

This has been my experience, I have used the BMW cycle and could always get O2's within about 20 minutes, it was always pretty fast and fuel evap sometimes would take another couple days/cold starts, but o2's never had much of an issue unless they were tuned out (which happened on a tune once and didn't know the channel was coded out)

My thread from last year on this.

https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...s-testing.html

It took 3-4 days of highway and local driving for me to re-ready... may have filled the tank in there to.

Maybe a stupid question, but do we need to each step of the cycle even though we only need O2 and CAT? I was hoping we can just try complete certain portions of the cycles.

Do you have a scanner or obd2 elm dongle. I could of passed 3 times on my car by now. It seems your tune has things purposely shut off. Like I said our cars will pass all monitors really fast if everything is on and the car is running healthy.

each of these checks run concurrently. within 5-10 minutes of start and drive if you have more than a half tank of gas and temps are cold enough to kick on high idle cold start.

^^
The car had a tune that had a least shut off 2nd O2 and CAT monitors. I had our local german service shop re-flash.
I have been using my obd2 both sitting still and monitoring while driving. EVAP was also an issue but that no longer shows up.

General update:
I had a couple of recommendations which had us do: Warm up, drive 43 for 3 min, drive 48-54 for 3 mins then park in D for 3 min. We did this twice last night and a slight variance of that one the day before (bmw cycle). Nothing has changed from the day we got the car from the smog dude except EVAP. Just driving was my actual MB service recommendation (no real help). Almost willing to disconnect battery and start fresh... Maybe Sunday if nothing changes.
