although, you'll have different responses for either, i prefer 4-1 headers. 8-1 collectors...now thats a thing of beauty. i run 4-1 on my personal vehicle, and also have my rev limiter set at 7,500 and at times 8,000rpm.

What about just straight pipes with the OEM logs?
That's all I have done right now with the track car. I didn't want to touch the header bolts considering it's 9 yrs old and was winter driven lol.

your driving style will help you determine where you want your power band. stock headers may be ideal for your style and local tracks. a pure track rat M156 would ideally have its rev limiter set to 7,500-8,000 a taller final drive to provide shorter ratios, and everything else that you should add for higher rpm operation headers included.

Surprised there isn't more comparative data on these cars with headers like you see with many other performance cars. The common 4-1 'long tube' headers are not long by traditional standards (considering bore, stroke, rev range, etc..), and common 4-2-1 seem to have excessively large primaries with odd step and primary-to-secondary ratios. And I've yet to see one of the common headers (of either type) that actually merge in the correct firing order.

Generally speaking the 4-1 will make more top end power compared to a tri y which will make more low end and power under the curve. On these cars I’m not sure anyone has done a side by side test to see if there is any noticeable difference

Out of curiosity, would you be able to do anything in your tune to help with the inconsistent or sometimes lack of rev matching on downshifts, especially at 2k or less in M mode? If I let the computer downshift on its own, it usually does a much better job. In manual mode, it rev matches less than 50% of the time under 2k RPM, and sometimes engages so hard that I hear the tires chirp.

good question, honestly have to many projects on the front and back burner to focus on the 3.06 final drive retune, but that is something that can only be offered in person if I eventually am able to offer it. it's something I still would like to offer just don't have a timeline for it as of yet.

Thanks for answering the several questions I've posted. I'm trying to justify the cost of the HPTuners platform to myself. The cost itself is not an issue. In fact, I think it is very fair for the work you seem to have put into this. The tough part is doing it over again after spending good money on the MyGenius unit and V7 tune, and then a bit more when I booked a local dyno tuning session with EC. I wish I had done more research on tuning options before I had committed, but oh well.
I really like the HPTuners platform. I also like that it supports so many manufacturers, making it a good investment in the long run. If I do go this route in the future, I will be purchasing my own MPVI2 since it supports all the vehicles we currently own. On that note, due you tune other platforms or do you stick to MB only?

@BalanBro , sure. although, I am not one to say this or that about another tuner, what I can tell you and what others will tell you if you ask, is that my tunes are not comparable to any other. simply cannot. the difference literally is like going from a civic ex to a civic type-r...the change is that drastic and performance oriented. my tunes will make you fall in love with your car harder than you've ever felt, because there is no greater mass produced naturally aspired v8 on the planet today. 6.2L mass produced that produces the torque and power...none...

oh sorry, to answer your question about tuning other platforms. the bosch motronic 9.7 computer that we have powering the M156 and M159 engines is a very complicated computer that took me a year to understand fully. assuming i will not need to dedicate that much time to reverse engineer a computer to understand it, sure i can tune any other platform that HP Tuners supports. some will require the same effort, some will not, but if you want me to spice it up if its a straightforward computer feel free to reach out.

So,, 2000dollars for about 18 torques and one hp...
Seems legit! *lol*
Ok,, more response, but if bying hptuners i can easily remap throttle to 1:1, then remap it as many times i want.
Yes,, i have knowledge of remapping cars.
Pass on this!
