I'd be perfectly happy with mine if it just let off a few pops on downshifts. Downshifting absolutely sucks compared to my old 2017. Otherwise I'm perfectly happy with the noises it makes when driven properly.

Pops on downshift are synthesised by pulling the ignition. A freer flowing exhaust won't do anything in that regard.

It was inferred in an interview with a Mercedes Representative, the the ECU will adapt and pull ignition timing if it detects lower restrictions in the exhaust. The authenticity of the claim is to be tested. I noticed this with my current car that once I removed the resonator, the overun on downshift and liftoff was significantly longer than when it was stock. So the ECU definitely adapts and pulls timing more with a free flowing exhaust.

C63 doesn't have resonators, but I get your point. Makes sense.

2019 C43 AMG COUPE
SOUND @ 6000KM

I have a 2019 C63-S COUPE now with 6000KM.

It was fairly quiet during break-in to 2500KM and some time after that. Also signed the petition to MBUSA regarding the sound complaints.

However now with the higher mileage and after tracking the car once, the sound had improved greatly.

Pops and crackles in Sport+ using automatic. Sweet spot is on gear 3 when high RPM's come down below 4000.

Amazing track car by the way, nothing beats coming out of those turns in this car.

us c63

The US version is much quieter than last year model... almost no pops or bangs on downshift unless you are near red line. has anyone found a fix without having to downpipes and tune????

Listening carefully to a few YouTube clips of US cars,
I strongly suspect they may have the particulate filter.
The deeper exhaust tone is present.

2019 AMG C63S
I drove the 2019 C63S Coupe in Laguna Seca AMG Academy event this week. The C63S coupe was used for the skidpad drifting event. Although we don't get to go really fast on the skidpad, you need to go stomp on the gas pedal to make the car drift, and let go to gain control of the car after the drift. Every time when we did this, we heard pops and crackles consistently. It was not as loud as the 2018s, but it's still there when you go above 3k RPM.

Yep, especially in Race mode. Should mention that the cars were in Race mode for the skidpad exercise with ESP off of course, which activates the AMG DYNAMICS Master mode for the best drift results, manually controllable by the TC level. The pops&bangs are clearly reduced, though in newer models. The 2020 GT Rs we drove on the track in S+ popped and banged about as much as the 2019 C63S. The older GT S we also got to drive popped & banged more. Quite frankly they all sounded great, though. To me the pops&bangs don't really add much and I still don't miss them. The occasional pops&bangs feel a lot more natural.

'19 C63S AMG Coupe
Figured I'd update this thread after putting ~4K miles on my '19 C63s coupe, few notes below (note that I only drive in S+ or R):

* It definitely has gotten louder since I got it ( I'm still waiting for the first person to get a secondary cat delete, although I may end up being the guinea pig )
* It crackles and pops on up shifts now, don't remember it doing that early on
* It will crackle and pop every time if I get the revs above 3.5K and lift off, it's especially noticeable in the first through third in city driving. Second gear in city driving - I'm getting crackles even around 3K RPM while driving around
* Still nothing on downshifts yet

All in all - the car is amazing and by far the funnest/best daily driver I've owned, still waiting to hear aftermarket exhaust options.

I tried multiple shops to remove my secondary cat.... everyone said they can not do it on the 19/20. I’m in California so that may be the problem. But I went to shops where I knew someone and they still said they couldn’t do it. I’ve thought about down pipes and a tune, but 7k later and possible void of warranty or flag at the dealer has kept me from doing it.

I've been told by a tech that there are no secondary cats on the FL car. Just the primary and the GPF. Removing the GPF will require mapping out too.

Sounds like the GPF has replaced the secondary cats, Correct?

So there are two sensors, one downstream of the primary and the second downstream of the GPF?

The filters are big, fat looking muffler thingamajigs? can we not see these obviously on our cars?

Funny thing regarding the M2 is, despite a particulate filter, you still have the car sounding great (or at least better than half the super cars, including the AMG GT63s), according to motor trend: https://www.motortrend.com/news/rank...D8kt6dZFUVC9XM

Test drove 2019 AMG GTR today… The GTR is loud, brutal and aggressive sounding machine, exactly what you would expect from a V8 AMG, It reminded me why I decided to upgrade to the C63 2 years ago. Man, how muted our facelift cars are..

The 2020 FL is toned down as well. Drove it at Laguna Seca during the AMG Driving Academy day.

Dealer is replacing my exhaust and the new one has been chilling at the shop due to some bodywork being done at the same time

It would be nice to have pics of pre FL and FL and location and type of sensors and valves.
