C63S Ticking Noise
I've had a ticking noise with my Mercedes for about a month now. It typically begins when I start the vehicle, and when I drive somewhere and put it in park, it's still ticking, albeit not as bad as compared to a cold start, but it can still be heard; the noise itself isn't too loud, but it's more of a nuisance. I wonder may there be an issue with the lifter in the engine combustion cycle? I heard this was an issue with the older C63's.
I'm curious to see if anyone else has had a similar issue, and if so, what you did to fix it. I'm veering away from going to the dealership for now, but if I have to, I will, I know it will be an arm and a leg, just like with any visit, so if it's an easy fix, I'm all ears!
Thank you and best regards.

Typically it’s normal...

I have a few videos saved if you want i'll upload them onto youtube but it's actually a very rare issue for the M177 🙂

What happened there!
I've taken the car to 4 different mechanics and they all couldn't figure out the noise. Their only suggestion was to replace the performance exhaust.
The noise is bearable because you only hear it on Cold Idle. Once the car is warmed up, the sound is very faint.

The only mechanical parts in our exhausts are the flaps. Take off the actuators (the black rectangular parts) and put some copper grease on all 3 of the flaps. See if that fixes it, and if it does, it's the flaps for sure.
I've been researching the timing chain guide issue on the German forums (motor-talk) and here is a vid I've downloaded from there. It's a very rare issue and as long as your cars don't sound like this, you're good.
PS: Idle pulley and belt can give a chirping sound at times, especially after a rainy day/night but it will never sound like this.
This is the bad sound you don't want

By far the cheapest option to rule out anything else is to grease up the flaps as suggested , then see how it goes.

The sound is on start up and makes a chipping/cricket sound under your hood. If it is making this sound, its could be an issue with the timing chain guides and i would suggest bringing it to a shop you trust to look at it.

Is yours under warranty? If not, argue for goodwill and get it sorted asap.
I've been following a thread on the German forums about this (over here).

Your car is all good bro she's still going strong after all these years. Apart from the old secondary cat delete fiasco you went through with the dealer 👍
