Need New Battery - Sears, yes or no?

I've had good experiences with Sears batteries for other cars, but couldn't find one on their site that would work for a 2001 CLK.

Does anyone know what Sears model will work?

If not, about how much does a Optima Yellow Top cost?

Thanks

Could you provide the part number (Sears web site indicates they do not have a replacement battery for the CLK)?

$$$ I will probably get a lightweight battery in the spring. The OEM batteries weigh a ton!

I guess I'll rule out the Yellow Top because I don't want to mess with getting a new mount.

When I had a BMW, the Sears part number search didn't list any applicable batteries also... but members on a forum listed the right number.

Would you mind telling us the part number for the Sears battery?

There's nothing wrong with it, but is it worth the extra cost? I haven't verified, but someone told me it's cheapest to get a new Merc battery through Merc Roadside Assistance for about $135. Can anyone verify?

To all:

While we're on subject, my battery now reads 12.4 with the car off. Isn't that suppose to be good enough to start the engine? When I attempt to crank the engine, it doesn't even turn over. It clicks once and cuts off...

Thanks

Sometime it will read a good voltage but the battery cranking amps are low to crank the engine over. If you bring the battery to your local parts store, they can test the Voltage, Cranking amps and Cold Cranking amps for you.

You also might want to check your starter.

List price at the dealer for the battery in my CLK430 was $118 this past August. Even lower for those of us with a Mercedes-Benz Club of America membership card (hint-hint).

Simply saying that a battery has 12.4 volts does not tell you whether it can start a car. Here's an example: AA batteries have about 1.6 volts. String eight of them together and you'll have 12.8 volts, but you can't start a car with it. You need to know the amperage. Hopefully this helps - If you have the original battery in your CLK, after six years of service, it's just plain worn out.

Found the sears battery

Tis the season for dead batteries!

Here is a link: Click for Sears Battery!
Sears price: $115.99

Worldwide Motors (Indianapolis Benz dealer) charges $121.79

My battery is weak and it's embarrassing to have to ask for a jump.

I found out that the MB battery has ~760 cold cranking amps. The Sears battery has 805. I'm going to Sears!!

Hidden Diagnostic Features

By the way - be sure to check out this post for how to use the hidden diagnostic features in the climate control unit. Once of these (#24) is a system voltage meter.
