Hi, hope someone can help ? I have a 2003 clk320 avantgarde coupe, running stock 16 inch alloys.

I have been offered a set of amg style rims that are 18 x 8 ET 33 all round (these are like new, the guy had them on a 2004 C-class sedan)

Will these go on my car, and if so what tyres and size would you recommend ?

been told to go with wider tyres on rear ? Thanks guys.

Wheels fit with no issues. Look back through this thread for some 18" tire sizes being ran on other CLK's

It came off a w204?

Make sure to get the right bolts for your car.

disco, what exactly is the bolt issue with w204 wheels? Earlier in this thread someone advised me that I can't use w204 wheels on my w209 "because of the bolts."

The w204 uses longer bolts with a different seat.

I only have the bolts that are on my clk, these would be ok, wouldn't they ?

Also looking back at previous posts, I found people recommending tyres @ 225 / 40 front & 265 / 35 rear, my local tyre suggested this combo as well, suggesting I put Michelin Pilots on it, anyone agree, or suggest something else ?

265 is getting pretty wide for an 8" rim, you might be exposing the sidewall a little. As for the ratios, yeah, those are correct for 18's.

If it was my 320, since the wheels are not staggered I'd just run the same size tires all around or a 245 in the rear. When it comes to street cars, tire selection is 95% personal preference and 5% performance IMO.

R171 wheels will fit. R171 is basically a shortened and widened W203.

All my R171 wheels fit on a W203 and W209

so, when you said "won't fit," you meant "won't fit unless you use your current bolts"? I've bought so many sets of used MB OEM wheels over the years and nobody ever included bolts, so the existing bolts of whatever MB model I was driving at the time is all I had. The only exception was a set of aftermarket winter wheels I bought from a R170 owner (for my W202 at the time) that required (and came with) bolts that had been shortened for the rears, so as not to lock up the parking brake. I later used those wheels on my W203 and my current W209 with those shortened bolts.

Welcome to the forum.

I have the identical rim sizes/widths (360 Forged) and tire sizes with H&R springs - I have no clearance or rubbing issues whatsoever. However, that may not be the case with you, we need to know your offset sizes. My last set of wheels (Sonic) were also the same sizes and I had a multitude of rubbing issues because the offsets were different.

well, it took me 2 1/2 years since I bought my CLK but I finally ordered some replacement wheels so I can look almost as cool as the cool kids on the forum. I bought the SLR style I posted about previously, since Deborah and Vassili at PowerWheels Pro (a forum sponsor) found me a set through one of their suppliers after informing me they were out of stock:

It only makes sense now to sell two of my three other sets of wheels, and keep one for winter/snows. I think the most likely ones to sell are these 16" aftermarket wheels I bought from an SLK owner (R170) with snows on them:

(try to ignore the ill-advised stick-on center cap detail)

The question is whether to sell my OEM 17's:

...or the 2003 OEM 16's I bought for winter use:

Friends have told me the 16's are ugly, but for winter I've liked them for the taller sidewall and the less expensive tire-size. Any thoughts?

Those SLR reps are going to look great man, it's good to hear that you were able to find them, we know you wanted them

As for the other wheels, other than the 16's with winters (good idea, soft ride and cheap to put rubber on them) would you ever really use the MB 16's or 17's again?

16s gotta go, not the prettiest wheel ive seen, although i never have to drive in snow so not sure about the cons for a high sidewalled tyre.

Rims and tyres fit no worries although the wheels studs VOSSEN sent were a little too long and were scraping, shorter studs and all good,
H&R springs are yet to be fitted to will keep you informed as to how that goes

Just for snows; I figure to sell the no-name 16s first, as they were always a PITA with their own hacksawed lugs. Since I need new snow tires anyway (assuming it'll snow again someday) I could buy 17" snows for my stock wheels or 16" for the stock 2003 wheels. Nu hurry obviosly, just getting them out of the garage.

Ended up getting these replica Brabus Monoblock S rims.

The Carlssons are bent and the lips are rashed to sh**. I'm going to refinish them in the next couple of months.

Specs on the Brabus:

18 x 8.5 ET 35 all around.
235/40 Front
265/35 Rear

I've added a 15mm spacer in the rear. I'll get shots of it later.

I'll probably use these 18s as snow rims for next year...

I don't know why but my front end looks so damn high.... 2005 CLK55s came with 18s and the front end isn't jacked up like this. Did they come with different suspension or something?

PS: no clear corners for you?

I got them from a local tire shop. This current setup I'll probably use as a winter setup and the Carlssons will be for either late this year or next year. I'm going to paint my corners body coloured
