Valve Covers
Did you know the valve cover are made of Magnesium and they did not like the heat and very high temps used to applied the thermo barrier & ceramic coatings. Sooo I had them painted a GSA Navy gray , instead . Thecolor will show any oil leaks + they wash up Quickly .The valve cover is a 2 piece . upper and lower/ Upper is more of a Baffle and uses Silicone to seal it in place. then has several attachment bolts to hold them together. To seal them to the head , the lower cover has a really nice Viton rubber seal. This makes life real easy. 10 bolts to hold them down. I think they were well though out & engineered IMHO

I know the intake manis have some magnesium but didn't know about the valve covers. I agree that they are a nice part. I've got my motor in pieces and my redneck buddy was surprised to see the type of parts that MB uses in their motors.
Patrick, I can't see any picture?
Maybe you can help me with this ? Reason I chimed in was I had planned on having aluminum male AN fittings welded at the PCV points in place of the hose barb/clamp type and to accept the other AN fittings/hose. I've already cut and ground them to where they are ready to weld on.... I take it you can't weld these if they are magnesium..?? or are they in aluminum?? I guess I could thread fittings into the covers if I'm stuck here...

AN fittings are aluminum.
If the workpiece you intend to weld the AN fittings to is made from a magnesium alloy, forget welding the aluminum AN fittings to it. Aluminum to aluminum, mag to mag.
Magnesium can be inert gas welded. Google it and you can learn what is required.

I have weld on aluminum AN fittings that wanted to be welded onto my valve covers in place of the OEM hose fittings. If my valve covers are in fact magnesium(which no one has confirmed) I can't do this..if they are in fact aluminum valve covers I can. Simply trying to confirm if the valve covers are magnesium or aluminum......
