Quote: How funny, I'm fabricating a similar intake. I wanted to eliminate the stock Y pipe, being it seems to be restricting flow.

Yup, running strong with no issues (knocking on wood).
A re-tune was nessesary post larger MAF housing. I was having surging issues at low rpms.
Awesome! You know what they say about great minds lol

Where do you order that Bosch MASS Air Sensor bung when you fab the custom MAS piping?

Wheres my 80 CFM
Last Saturday I had some time to stick a 82 MM T-body on the flow bench.
It Flowed 930 CFM. Then I installed the Y from a 80 MM set up. It Drop to 850 CFM. That is a 80 CFM drop? I'm looking to install this type of set up on my klee blower. I need to do more fabrication.
I did this a while back And I'm looking into Needs wings setup

Where is my 80 CFM
So because of fire wall clearance , I went to the CLS 550 Parts. The elbow is oblong. I'm trying to stick with OEM parts , If you notice in the 4th Picture & Grafted a MASS air Flow mounting boss from a round barrel to the Oval barrell . Cheers _PTEngineering

AWESOME TECH!

KEV - The dashdaq alone is not that impressive.... however, it will act as my data-logger once I interface my WideBand to it, and ultimately boost pressure, and in the future fuel pressure, then it becomes a convenient way to data-log monitor things. By itself.... you're better off doing diagnosis with DAS Star System. More indepth.

After getting away from AMG-world today, I came up with a new game plan:

1. put the car back together with current tune, and just monitor AFR/fuel trims, so I can enjoy the car now and drive it.

2. in the mean time.... begin assembling parts for my next round of mods... because one thing leads to another it is looking like this:

PHASE II:
1. MBH custom long tube headers
2. New bigger custom single exaust, Muff TBD.
3. Pull blower and port blower inlet for 82mm TB.
4. Bigger E55k injectors.
5. New Custom MASS AIR METER / Y-pipe aluminum fabricated intake
6. NEW DYNO TUNE @ sealevel.
Step 7 - hold on for dear life

Check the fast e55 below..... using the oldest d/r tricks in the book.... wgt reduction, big/littles..... I wonder where to get the skinnies for the benz for the front? Oh and basically open exhaust.

Thanks for the reply, last question. I know you have a bad *** phantom setup with your wideband AFR gauge but could you also view realtime wideband AFR's on the DashDaq instead of using the seperate gauge (with the aftermarket wideband O2 sensor of course)?

Thanks again

Kev - Yes, I planned it to be able to do both. When I'm in normal daily driving mode when I don't want that bulky dashdaq on the window, I can still monitor AFR's real-time via the stealth LCD display.

But here's the cool part..... via a phone-jack coupler provided by Zietronics you put the LCDdisplay in series with another phone jack output that goes to your dash-daq to allow real time AFR / RPM datalogging. The dashdaq allows you to custom build displays with bar graphs, digital - analog dials, etc...... record the data and play back with slip-in memor cards.

I recommend you work with Zietronics for the total Package already built together see link below, that way you don't have to pc meal it together like I am doing and it all works together.

I hope you all don't mind these continual updates... but it's my reality.. so here goes

Got up early this AM and:
1. Tried another new MAS sensor (this is #4 MAS) and it reads over 5 volts under full load just like the others, so now I'm convinced it's not bad MASS probes, but rather pegged MASS AIR METER.
2. My earlier runs were in 40deg F air, and AFR up to 11.8-11.9. This AM 68deg F Air AFR up top 10.8-10.9 (I suspect rich due to air cond).
3. I learned how to reset adaptation for sensor and mixture using DAS... super easy. I reset the values and went for a 1 hour ride in varying loads. My LTFT's slowly crept up to 1.16 on each side. Came home hooked up DAS and found the 1.16 fuel trim is in same place as before... lower range of part load adaptation value.... upper range of part load is same as before. +/-1 (Good).

I'll drive the car for a few days and monitor/log LTFT's with this #4 Mass Air Sensor and see if it stays around +16%.... if it does I'll just drive it easy until I figure out a new MASS AIR PIPE solution that does not peg above 5 volts.

Another side note.... MASS AIR SENSOR#4 is a $35 ebay special, I'm trying just to see the diff. You can see physical diffs upon inspection, but so far it behaves close to the bosch units. I plan to data log MAS VOLT / RPM or TIME of the ebay MAS VS the Bosch MAS to see if there is indeed a diff. If no diff...... at the rate these fail the Ebay $35 units might be viable. More to come.

A caveat on the ebay MAS.... inspect it thoroughly..... I found a metal splinter in the wire mesh in the meter housing that would have been sucked into the motor at startup.... not good...... but I'm not using the cheapo housing.... only the sensor. FYI.

I measured my TB it is around 75MM.
I took out the ported TB elbow which had the vanes removed and put a stocker back in.. NO change in MAX MAS voltage.... still pegged. so these vanes don't seem to effect upstream MAS flow..... and perhap don't offer any perf advantage.

My next step will be to codger up some type of al tube larger MASS air body housing with the new Al MAS flange coming to me from fleabay. I'll try a 3.5" OD tube with my stock TB and stock e55k y-pipe to see if I can stop the pegging issue.

ONE QUESTION - are kleemann cars just using the stock AMG EM2.8 mb tune.... and put on mechanical trickery to do the tune?
I have a FMU, a dc-dc converter which jacks up fuel pump voltage above 4psi boost, and an inline resistor which tweaks the stock MASS Air Volt Signal.
Does all of the mech/electronic adds just tweak the stock fuel/spark maps tune????????

PTE - per your question yesterday about clk55-K rideheight with stock springs see below pics:

Current Setup:
Stock springs / struts
Heavy Stock type battery up front
Klee blower/ic/etc... up front.

ENJOY.

1. Front

2. Rear

For drag racing, and daily driving I'm keeping the stock springs and HIGH ride height. Better wgt transfer on launch, less chance of bottom out when I upgrade to LT headers, easier to put jack under car, and less scraping of CF Lip, OH and last but not least.... when it does rain/flood here.... it is nice to be up out of the weeds for water injestion.

2m - Yup!

My stock MAS ID is 3". I've got 1' of 3.5" OD thin wall tube coming which I'll weld on the MAS Adapter flange. This will increase the ID of the MAS from 3" to 3.37" which just may be enough to keep my MAS from pegging with my current tune. The Al pipe is only $12, and flange is $25... so this is any easy test.

Stock MAS cross-section-area = 7.0686 sq-in
Al MAS cross-section-area = 8.9197 sq-in (OR +1.85 sqin.... which is 26% larger).

Stock Air Mass Table:
Volt / rpm
0 0
1 800rpm
2 1250rpm
3 1700rpm
4 3000rpm
5 6000rpm

I'll be using same sensor with a 26% larger CSA tube.

A good read..... I wish we had access to a user-friendly eng mgt system like tweecer.... etc......
http://www.superstang.com/maf.htm

Very good read below and similar application of going from +/-2.87" ID MAS body to 3" ID MAS body, with same mas meter.....
http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=293998

Found this on ebay this AM....... I bet I could by this and cut it up to re-clock the MAS flange at a downward direction, then fit the breaks together with silicone couplers/clamps.

I might try to contact seller and see if I can just buy a y-pipe.

NOTICE the E55K guys don't have the MAS to contend with..... they just tune via Map sensor. I'm jealous.

Nice! Looking forward to seeing the gains over the Kleemann ones

Is it just me or does there seem to be a serious case of the mod bug going arounbd on the Kleemann cars lately?

Mod Bug has hit texas.

It seems I've accumulating alot of projects that could use al welding...... custom cold air intake for my car, custom exhaust mods for jetskiis..... etc...... so I'm thinking it's time to invest in a welder for AL....... from my research I'm thinking this spool feed Mig is the setup.

Does this look like a decent setup for the home-garage AL welder?

NICE! Congrats.

I was on the fence myself about the upgrade to the MBHs.

If my car did not already have the Kleemann's I would have definitely purchased these from the get go. Great pieces.

Are you going to dyno pre and post MBH's?
