From 992TS to a 718?
That's quite a switch......

Yes, it is. Living in N America, the 911Turbo is Way too fast and too sterile to be fun (did you watch Matt Farrah’s review?).
The GTC provides tons of thrills and emotion and is borderline too fast for the street as it is.
I was looking for a convertible, preferably with a manual, that’s as pure as possible.
There’s nothing really on the market today besides a 718 Spyder that fits this criteria. Another example: The weight of the controls is something that I always loved with Porsche sports cars. That’s gone with the 992.

The Boxster Spyder is a great car, I’d prolly have one I’d I had a need for more dome burning NAs.

But when I was offered an allocation earlier this year I decided that low mileage gated v10 goodness is preferable than new flat six manual goodness, and with the 458 spider also sitting there I didn't need three convertibles. I am really looking forward the GT4RS tho, it’ll basically be a baby GT BS.

I actually get why some people find the TTS boring, it is after all a true gt car by intent and not a track focused one, its competition is really cars like the 488 which is equally muted in its driving experience albeit wrapped in a more exotic package. I happen to like it’s versatility, understated looks, and ridiculous performance, but it wouldn’t be the car I’d own if it were my only sports car, but it does compliment well the rest of the current stable and will share dd duties with the upcoming RS6A ... one for the schlepping one for the launching.

Apologies for the off topic stuff, I figured I’d fill time while wait for more info from MB.

I just watched one of the Nurburgring testing videos again and remain confused why AMG designed such a quiet exhaust for this car. I’m aware of the impact of GPFs and tightening European noise regs, but the car is nearly silent. A 992 GT3 mule was also in the same video and it was significantly louder. Even the Turbo S made more sound.

Given that AMG has been traditionally known for its aggressive exhaust note, I find it puzzling that they have chosen this path. An F8 Tributo is also a flat plane turbocharged V8 with GPFs yet it isn’t so silent. What gives?

How were you able to drive a 992 Turbo S?

There are none here unless someone let you drive the press cars that floated around recently for all the local YouTube reviewers? Those cars are all Euro spec. It’s interesting to hear your perspective because I drove a base 992 RWD and it had tons of personality vs the 991.2 that was basically a fast appliance. To each their own.

I was in Germany. One of my investors knows a Porsche Board member...
They are being delivered to customers in Europe right now.

I also drove a base 992. Not impressed. I think the 992 is a terribly lame update to the 911.

I get it now (your comment re 718).
Agree about 992, had a 992 S Convertible rental for a week in LA in early March, I was looking forward to spend some time behind the wheel of that thing but after just couple days could not wait to get rid of it, so boring and average feeling in all regards.
Switched it for M8 Convertible and could not be happier, really, really enjoyed that BMW, great fit and finish, great handling and mind boggling performance, fabulous car for the money.

This, unless they add those bits and bobs to the production version, it doesn't count.

Knocking 20 seconds off a ring time is no irrelevant thing, I can't imagine any of those numbers are anything but speculation. Even the 6xx number that was timed by a prototype doesn't give is any real indication of what a final time is. Who knows what they were testing. I also can't imagine they are testing the car with an additional 120 hp, it just doesn't make sense in any way. The strapped on lower lip of that prototype looks an awful lot like the production two position front spoiler that is in all of the press shots.

I find the rampant my best friends uncles top secret insider knowledge fun. 6:40 or bust!!!!

Hi guys...
I haven’t post in a while but wanted to share my disappointment with MB and my dealer.
Knowing that the BS was going to happen I put my name on a list in 2017, right after I bought my GTR, at my dealer for this car and I was told if the dealer gets an allocation I was the first one in the list so nothing to worry... right....
When the BS was revealed not too long ago I went to my dealer to check and ask if I could submit my order request as many of you have done it here in this forum and I was told by the GM that they are not honoring any wait list, that they are not submitting any order requests, that the are confident they will receive an allocation but it will be offered to their most special customers. Also they confirmed to me the car base MRSP will be in the 325k-350k ball park without any options.... and to make things worse they informed me the dealership Has decided to add a “mark up” amount of 50k-100k over sticker price on this BS. So now that puts me in the 450k-475k range if I want this car. I was speechless.... and this is someone that have purchased 7 AMG Cars in the past 6 years at the same dealer....
I told the GM to remove my name from any list and I was not interested anymore in this car. I also called a good friend of mine that works at another MB dealership and he again confirmed to me that his dealer will add a “mark up” of 50k-100k over sticker price... Insane.... So I’m done with the BS quest... I hope you guys have better experiences getting this car...
‘By the way, few days later I went to the nearest Mclaren dealer and just ordered a 765 LT.... no mark ups over sticker price and treated So much better than MB....
.....

I'm sorry to hear that.

I trust you won't be giving them any more of your business.

Please post the name of the dealership so that others know who to avoid.

Enjoy the Mac!

I think the 765LT is going to simply be epic, plus I agree with Serge: post the name of the scumbag dealer who shafted you. *******s!

Not surprising. My couple of experiences with Mercedes-Benz of Delray, also an Autonation dealer, have been terrible. Shame it's only a few miles from my house. If I have to go to a dealer for warrantee work, I go to MB of Palm Beach.

In france and switzerland, dealers are not allowed to add a mark up (or a discount) for this particular car. But in the US, it will probably be in the USD 400k range with options if it follows european pricing.

I regret your experience though - i considered the mac laren at some stage, however the reliability on track has put me off.

I test drove an F8 Tributo in December of last year and posted a video earlier in this thread of a cold start. My back up plan for games and ADM is to get an F8. I'm sure the 765 LT will be awesome but the reality is I live 400 miles away from a Mac dealer. I don't want to deal with issues on a Mac being that far away. I'm surprised Vegas still does not have a Mac dealer. I live 105 miles away from Vegas so it's not a big deal to take my cars in for service and of course Vegas has a Ferrari dealership. F8 is a gorgeous car in person. Here's a pic of the car I drove.

Beautiful car man.

I am in the same boat with Mclaren. Only brands around me are Porsche, BMW, Mercedes and Audi.
