Let me introduce myself
This is me, 24 year old E4 in the military police corps, stationed in Ft Campbell, KY...

[/IMG]This is the car, my first Mercades, 1983 300D, needs a little work, motor is knocking but it came with a new one out of an 84 300SD, came with the tranny from the 84 too. also came with another set of wheels that match the ones that are on it now. It runs and drives as it is but i didnt get it over 10 MPH. I think its in pretty good shape, a small spot of rust drivers side back door and a small spot on the drivers side rear 1/4 under the bumper. rear bumper needs some work, somebody welded a trailer hitch to the bumper and messed up the mounts on the drivers side. the driver's seat has a rip in the outer bolster but i can fix that, rear seat back is ripped but it came with a new one, otherwise no issues i know about yet. all in all im pretty happy, for $350, plus a $204 truck/trailer rental and about $160 in fuel, total about 714 bucks for it... enough talk heres a couple pics

[/IMG]If you look in the bed of the truck in the last pic you can see my new motor, if anybody has some advice for the motor swap bring it on, im ordering new motor and tranny mounts, anything else i should do? ill be changing fuel filters too.
by the way, im really a VW guy and this is my daily...

Also if you would like to by the Mercedes Factory Service Manual CD Set it is $19.99+$7 shipping from:
http://www.classictechlit.mbusa.com/MB/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=Retail&category%5Fname= 1009%28ClassicTechLit%29&product%5Fid=QL%2D6516%2D 5610%2D02%28ClassicTechLit%29
It covers the complete car with the exception of rebuilding Transmissions, Turbo Chargers and it does not have the Front End Alignment specs. There is alose almost noting on trouble shooting transmission problems in it.
But, other than the above I feel it is a great value for the money and will save you way more money than the origional cost.
Besure to check your Oil Cooler Hoses, Transmission Cooler Hoses, the Driveshaft Flex Discs and the Rubber Boots on the Rear Axle.
Also take a look and see if the Powersteering Belt is getting close to cutting into the Oil Cooler Hose. It can do that when that Motor Mount goes bad on that side.
I just thought it would be nice for all the folks to get out there in the Military and spread some American Culture while at the same time getting an education and understanding what their free country cost. After all it is all expenses paid!
