--What are these in My front Springs--
Hey guys i've been looking at my front springs for a while and i couldent help but ask to why do they have some ALUMINUM looking things in between the springs? what are they?
here is just an example and the red is where those things are on?
i am woundering if i take them off will it lowr my front more?

i'm pretty sure you shouldn't have anything in-between your coils, or 'in' the spring anywhere... take pics! maybe someone left the plates of a spring compressor in there...!

I have never used them but they were popular in the 60's when raising cars was popular. Sounds like they would put a lot of stress on the coils.

two thoughts:
1) The compressor tool you show is not the correct one for our cars...it should look like this:
...and so you can see where the pressure plates could in fact get left in there...but not likely at all that they would still be there unless really pinched. If that were the case however, I would expect the car to sit a bit higher...equal to the thickness of the plates.
2) Seems to me that AMG spec'd spring compressor spacers similar to the ones shown in the other reply post. Presumably to keep things from rubbing under full suspension compression. This would not have any effect on static height of the car IMO.

I have to be in west seattle at 5 pm, but can try to swing over after 6 pm and
take a look if you want. it seems odd that the pancake clamps would still there
in that location and not have fallen off all this time. nothing is holding them in
there except for a .25" relief in the plates. (or meet you 1/2 way between
kirland and seattle)

I swung by and took a look underneath the car. It's a single, wedge shaped,
almost arrowhead design spacer which has contours in the middle approx the
diameter of the coil. I suggested jacking up the car so as to remove much of
the spring tension, then seeing if he can simply tap them from the opposite
(ie inside out) and drive it out.
I was in a rush doing errands. I meant to snap a photo and post for you guys
to see.
Later in the evening, I thought that if unloading the suspension wasn't sufficient
to pop the spacer out (though in my head, it should) another method would have
to be to remove the coil and 'thread' the spacer out.
Berti's goal is to try to lower it another .75". I didn't think removing this spacer
would be sufficient. He already has a #1 spring pad. So to make up .75"
he would need to run w/o spring pad, or cut the spring (it is already a lowering
spring, manuf unknown).
I've never seen a coil spring spacer of this design so unable to conclusively
advise how best to remove. Looks old school, JC Whitney-like solution.
Doesn't appear difficult....this, coming from someone who has his own spring
compressor. Hopefully, it'll just pop out after he jacks up the car.

berti, don't be lazy! just jack up the car, pull off the wheel and see if you can get that thing out of the spring... worst that can happen is you'll fail and get someone else to do it... then you'll know if you need to play with the spring pads

Albert, when I saw your car I really didn't notice a height difference between the front and rear. Maybe I just didn't look carefully enough. But your car looked level to me!!
3/4" is a lot! Is the difference really that noticeable??

noo its not actually that much but its just mee sometimes am an a$$ lol and want it to be perfect... but i just want a little bit more... am going to take the pads out in the front and just leave a very thin layer so the springs will have rubber contact and not metal to metal

well what **raymond g-** suggested is that i take out the spring pads on the front and than sand them on the machine untill its soo thin that its jut a small layer of the spring pad just so it will be in contact whith the springs and not contact with metal to metal... so i'll get a some drop on that for sure and than maybe a litttle more ones i take those aluminum spacers on the springs as well and i'll be happy ....

puck down to a thickness which still give you drop...and cushion between the
top of the spring and spring perch. how thick that is will be up to you.

i may have used the word 'shave' but sanding may not give the best results.
i'd use a coping or hacksaw blade with fine teeth. you're looking to cut the
puck down to a thickness which still give you drop...and cushion between the
top of the spring and spring perch. how thick that is will be up to you.
