Anybody done any sunroof work?
Yesterday one of the sides collapsed "inside" slightly on my 260E. I was expecting it to fail soon.
Anybody taken it apart? Any ideas what part would cause it to collapse inwards? I can't see because it goes inwards. It won't move/budge either.
Of course the first step is to remove the headlining...but typically the FSM says "remove headliner with sunroof 3/4 open" I'd prefer not having to demolish the lining to pull it off as it wont move at all.
I got 3 days off working next week so I think that would be the perfect time to go to town and fix it all up.

I also like the dynomat idea. I might go order some cheap soundproof online and do it since it will be out. Why not right?
Don't see how I can screw this up any more than it is either so I got no problems pulling it to pieces and figuring it out.

Which arm do you think is broken? I believe the left arm on my sunroof is broken on the 500e. I want to do this, but I havent found a good candidate for donor parts at the junkyard yet. If you need the right and I need the left, then Ill grab one for you if I have one apart and you grab one for me? Whichever comes first. Deal?
No sense in us both pulling one apart if one of us gets one open first.
Oh and of course I would compensate you whatever you paid for it.
Then again, you probably want to practice on a car other than your own anyway... :-/

Is the sunroof exactly the same on the 500E?
But I'm going right for it....the 260E is my "beater" so to speak...so I am not too worried about it because the sunroof cant get any worse than it currently is so got nothing to lose.

I have rebuilt a sunroof on a 124 wagon. i could probably lend some advice if needed but it was a good 9-10 months ago so it might be a little hard for me to remember. It did take me a full day tho

Well the #1 question....did you fix it fully? Any problems along the way? Any tips with tool use or anything?

Yes i fixed it fully, i pulled one out of a parts car we had at the shop and put it in a customers wagon.
The job is pretty straight forward, just a bit time consuming.
Nope no special tools required... phillips head, flat head, and a 10 mm socket and ratchet i believe that was it.
After removing the sunroof headliner, open the sunroof completely and remove the two slides on either side (i believe there were 3 or 4 phillips head screws on each side). Then I closed the roof fully and remove 2 bolts on either side of the sunroof, and the two bolts that the rod is connected to (you will see them) and then lift off the sunroof completely.
Let me know if you need anymore help. Good luck with it

Sorry for lack of progress rivcal ran into some problems before starting the sunroof...Ended up snapping the Ignition Rotor bracket as the rotor wouldn't come off....The outside has broken off, but the inside is stuck inside the camshaft...this is gonna be fun
Has to be the original rotor on the car as all the bolts were stripped.
Dealer wants $46 for the part, but managed to find it on autohaus if I put in the part #...
So 260E out of action right now.
