Comments: Owned for 7 months, only problem has been burned out instrument cluster lights and one headlight.

I love this car, it has unbelievable torque on the low-end and is very comfortable.

Comments: It has a superb drive that I don't get tired of. Has way to many little problems (i.e. blows bulbs frequently, sunrf cable clips broke, pwr window cable broke, brakelight switch faulty--the ABS/ESP warning lights, faulty key, interior blower broke, steering column loose, headlight/wiper stalk needs replacement, etc). Some of those start to add up, like the blower motor and regulator, and steering column stalk. All of these little things have actually made owning this car quite disappointing. Major problems have been few, but the O2 sensor went bad (left me stranded once) had to get all new control arm links & bushings. It's been expensive to service. Definitely not the quality of an earlier generation Benz and nowhere near the quality of a Japanese car. But I guess you don't buy Benz's for quality, though they should deliver that. However, it's a fun car to drive and I still like the car and will probably buy another.

Used to buy a Mercedes-Benz for quality, now, I'm not so sure.

In the past, the cars were miniature tanks, impeccably well built that even if you wanted to get rid of it, you had no excuse to because nothing would go wrong.

Nowadays, you're lucky if only a few small things go wrong.

Comments: I bought it new in 1997. Replaced the transmission at 60k at no charge. I've gone through several rear window regulators (3). As expected, several minor things give it character: passenger set controls work in reverse, strong RF fields set off the ABS/ESP warning lights (thus proving the car can read minds). But it is still rock solid: 22-24mpg, 120 mile drive 5 days-a-week.
I have the same issues with the window (1) and passenger controls in the 4 years I have owned my car.

Has been a great car. The only major problem was a transmission rebuild at 104K. 4K out from the Starmark extended warranty. Don't believe for a minute that the transmission fluid is lifetime. Be sure to change the fluid often. A transmission rebuild on these cars is very expensive.

Seems like there have been several transmission problems.

Had the 60,000 mile service done recently (at around 56K miles). Had the transmission fluid changed.

Comments: Only problem I've ever had was the battery went bad... from not driving it enough. Six years old now and still has never been driven in the rain, so it still looks like-new underneath.

I have had it serviced per FSS; sometimes it has only gone 600 miles in between oil and filter changes.

Richard... I don't know what we're going to have to do with you...

It's okay I guess, I have a friend of mine with a BMW 645Ci convertible. It's 33 months old and it's only gotten 453 miles so far.

Wonderful Car

1999 E430 Sport, bought used with Certified Warranty and about 39K miles.

Car now has about 89,000 miles. For an everyday driver, this is a wonderful car. Very pleasant to drive on long trips.
