Just got a letter from MBUSA re: Tanks
I just got the letter from MBUSA, they are extending the warranty for fuel tank and components for E-Class and CLS-Class vehicles to 15 years unlimited mileage.

Yes, I just received the same letter.
The letter states:
"It is important that any repairs made under this warranty extension are preformed by an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership."
This is my situation:
I replaced both fuel pumps about 11 months ago...obviously not within the factory warranty period and not by Mercedes-Benz.
Is this a catch 22?
IF this new Warranty Extension for the fuel tank components would have been in place before my needed repairs, of course I would have them done at a MB dealer. However my repairs were nesseary before this extension was put in place by my non MB mechanic.
Am I screwed on reimbursement of my costs from MB?
Sounds like a class action law suite may be appropriate.

Got the same letter today. I think we will be taking the 2004 E320 wagon in and see what they will do. For the last couple of years we've stopped filling the tank at about the 3/4 mark... anything more and you can smell gas. I guess this will fall under the warranty extension.
I had my 2007 E350 fixed last year when it developed the same problem... but it was still under the extended warranty. It has been fine since.

Just got my car back from the dealer and they put a new tank in free of charge. . I should have pushed for new rear seat foam because it reaks of gas.

I took the fuel tank components warranty extension letter to the service manager at my local MB dealer. This was the first time he stated he saw this letter. He stated that after I put together all of the required elements stated on the back of that letter (my repairs were not completed by MB, but by an outside shop), to bring it all back to him personally. The letter does state: "Reimbursement will be made by check from your dealer." and "The following documentation must be presented to your dealer for reimbursement." So my question is:
What is the enclosed postage paid envelope for that was included in that letter?
So I'm suppose to "trust" the service manager to follow through with this once I hand him the required documents?
Yes, I did make copies of everything

I understand one use of the envelope is to update the status of ownership of the car (sold, destroyed etc) so MB knows where the car is and that they've made every reasonable attempt to contact all owners.

I just brought my 07' E350 to the dealership to have them replace the O Ring I paid for this past summer, and had them replace it because of the Gas Fume smell inside the cabin. I paid $300. I figured it was a faulty O Ring and have always questioned the fact that there should've been a recall. Guess what everybody? As of January 2015, Mercedes finally recalled all W211 gas tanks because of cracking and leaking gasoline!!! They are installing a new tank today at NO CHARGE!!! And they are refunding me the $300 I paid for the O Ring! If you have a W211 and have had the same Gasoline smell inside your car, call your local dealership or service center and let them know that this is finally recalled and can hopefully be fixed! If you already paid for a new tank before January 2015, then there should be a full refund from Mercedes! I should be getting my car back today and will let you all know if the new tank fixes the problem. Good luck to everybody!

We have a 2004 E320 wagon and have had this issue but did not receive a letter although we have moved from address that may be on file with MBUSA from when we originally bought the car. How do we get a copy of the letter or find out about any recalls on our vehicle? Thanks.

UPDATE:
Took the required paperwork that was stated on the extension letter to the service manager at MB today.
The grip that was stated on my fuel pump replacement from my non MB mechanic stated:
"Work Requested-Cust Request to inspect Vehicle Crank Over Won't Start & Fuel Smell Inside CK and Advise"
"Work Preformed-Short Test Preform, Inspect For No Start, Found No Codes Present. Test Fuel Pressure, No Pressure, Tested Electrical Found Power & Ground @ Pump Also found Leakage At Pump Assembly. Found Left Side Sending Unit Leaks, Found Right Side Pump Burnt Out, Replace Faulty Fuel Pump Sender Assembly & Faulty Fuel Pump Assembly W/Sender Unit & Fuel Sender Seal & Fuel Pump Mounting Brat & Fuel Pump Mounting Brat & Update Fuel Pump Wiring Harness"
MB Manager stated: "Good thing that fuel smell was mentioned because the last customer did not mention the fuel smell and MB declined the claim"

Mercedes has settled with NHTSA on the fuel system issue. They are extending fuel system warranty on all 2003-2009 E Class for 15 years AND NO MILEAGE LIMITATIONS. Got my tank replaced along with sending unit and pump this past Thursday (1/29/2015) FREE OF CHARGE AND RENTAL CAR INCLUDED. Call your dealer with your VIN number and make an appointment! Life is good !
