Just got a letter from MBUSA re: Tanks
The letter states:
"It is important that any repairs made under this warranty extension are preformed by an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership."
This is my situation:
I replaced both fuel pumps about 11 months ago...obviously not within the factory warranty period and not by Mercedes-Benz.
Is this a catch 22?
IF this new Warranty Extension for the fuel tank components would have been in place before my needed repairs, of course I would have them done at a MB dealer. However my repairs were nesseary before this extension was put in place by my non MB mechanic.
Am I screwed on reimbursement of my costs from MB?
Sounds like a class action law suite may be appropriate.
I had my 2007 E350 fixed last year when it developed the same problem... but it was still under the extended warranty. It has been fine since.
What is the enclosed postage paid envelope for that was included in that letter?
So I'm suppose to "trust" the service manager to follow through with this once I hand him the required documents?
Yes, I did make copies of everything

Took the required paperwork that was stated on the extension letter to the service manager at MB today.
The grip that was stated on my fuel pump replacement from my non MB mechanic stated:
"Work Requested-Cust Request to inspect Vehicle Crank Over Won't Start & Fuel Smell Inside CK and Advise"
"Work Preformed-Short Test Preform, Inspect For No Start, Found No Codes Present. Test Fuel Pressure, No Pressure, Tested Electrical Found Power & Ground @ Pump Also found Leakage At Pump Assembly. Found Left Side Sending Unit Leaks, Found Right Side Pump Burnt Out, Replace Faulty Fuel Pump Sender Assembly & Faulty Fuel Pump Assembly W/Sender Unit & Fuel Sender Seal & Fuel Pump Mounting Brat & Fuel Pump Mounting Brat & Update Fuel Pump Wiring Harness"
MB Manager stated: "Good thing that fuel smell was mentioned because the last customer did not mention the fuel smell and MB declined the claim"
