Chrome Air Vent covers

I thought I would post this as a new thread since it may get lost in the pedal thread.

ParkPlace has only the "matte" chrome hood vent covers. They are listed at two different prices but they will sell for the 121.70 since they have two prices showing. The price has increased thought to 132.90.

I contacted Jerry at Formymercedes and he has them in chrome or matte. They are the same ones that go on the ML and are called Aerowings. Here is a picture of them in high gloss. They sell for $39.99! He said they are installed by tape and there is also a small cover for the washer head. Has anybody tried these or aware of any quality issue?

Jack,

That is a great find. For 40 bucks I would just get them and give them a shot. In reality, 40 bucks sounds about right as they are simply six pieces of plastic with a chrome finish. The only thing I would ask them is if the fins come with the tape installed on them. It would take some patience to put it on but then again I suppose you could put the tape on the GL fin first and just lay the chrome piece on top of it.

I came to the same conclusion Jeff...Jerry will take them on return if for some reason they are not what I want to use. I'll let everybody know how they look and how they install. He said he had no returns on this product. The matte ones are $69...must be a more expensive process to make them matte.

BTW Jeff...I don't think I have a confirm from you on the Saturday lunch at BJ's Brewery. Do you want me to add you to the list? Thanks

NJ, are the matte ones somewhat glossy as well? Your earlier picture seems to reveal that the whole air vent cover may be a "chrome finish", and not just the fins. Is it or have you heard of this?

The air vent cover is black plastic as are the fins. I have not seen the "matte" fins but they will not be consistent with all the other chrome on the GL which is high gloss. I am sure the matte fins have some gloss to them.

It's interesting that ParkPlace has only the matte finish fins. I bought my plastic chrome ones from them about a year ago and paid about what was quoted in the first post. At that time, the local dealers didn't even have a clue what I was talking about when I asked them about the fins. Someone here on this forum was kind enough to give me the link. They're still shiny and in place.

I ordered 2 sets of these last month fom ParkPlace. It said matte on their web site, so I asked them what they look like, and was told that they only come in shinny chrome and it was just listed wrong. I have them and they are shinny.

NJ,

Did you ever get the Chrome Air Vent covers installed? Has anybody done it for that matter?

I returned them because they just did not fit quite right. Jerry told me he would order the same ones Park Place sells from Schatz-Tuning for $99 and I am waiting for them to arrive. I think I posted a thread on this earlier.

So the ones from Park Place will fit just fine, the only difference is the price? Is that why you ordered them from Schatz-Tuning?

No...I was told by PP that they only had the "matte" finish so I looked elsewhere. Someone posted that they ordered the PP ones and they were high gloss chrome?

I ordered the PP ones and the website said "matte" but on the phone they said high gloss. I made mention on my online order (PP does not take credit cards over the phone for some weird reason) that if they were not the bright chrome ones but instead the matte ones, I did not want them. (Under the "Comments" section.)

Got the shiny.

Hey LIONHEAD, how are you? Great to see you slumming...:-) Just some minor "touch ups" not really mods...

You ought to try one of these GL's..."it ain't your old mans SUV."

I am going to send Jerry a note and tell him to hold my shipment to the 5th of November since I will be leaving Thursday on a cross country jaunt.

Daum....your GL looks great Nevada Jack! The white stitching inside is a real nice touch! I'm about to order an Audi S5 as I'm about to sell my E500 to my friend in Phoenix. Hopefully the Audi will help me pass the time for the next 2 years before I get something else.

Post some pics of your cross country expedition with your GL once you get back!

I don't know what the part number is, but on the Park Place website, they are called chrome hood fins. Hope this helps.

Somehow, I don't think we are talking about the same thing. I am refering to the mesh cover that is under the fins. I assume that is what this thread is about, no?

What's the frequency, ubrs? No one here has discovered chrome mesh replacement under the fins. The thread is talking about chrome covers for the fins. However, I can see how the thread title could have caused the confusion.

This is the thread that led me to believe that Chrome mesh covers existed( see pictures posted by Stevethepilot) unless the lighting is deceiving??
