If you are experiencing brake squeal do you have the standard brakes or the AMG option?
My GLC, with AMG brakes, occasionally emits a barely audible squeal when backing down the driveway in the morning. Seems to be coming form the rear brakes.

Am living with it for the time being.

also having issues with screeching sound

I have taken it several times to the dealership. They have been trying to help solve the problems. They referred to both service bulletins. They have already changed the brake pads in both rear and front and the problem is still there. It only happens when backing up when the car is cold. It is my first mercedes and it is very disappointing. I just sent the dealership an email. I hope they find a solution for this soon! It is so annoying and quite honestly unacceptable for what is supposed to be a premium brand.

GLC Brake Issue

My 2016 GLC is having the same problem. Screeching when in reverse. The local dealership is unable to fix. Mercedes engineering is not responding.

I filled a complaint with customer service by calling 800-367-6372. The case was assigned to Gerrel. Spoke to him once, waiting to hear back.

The more people who call, the better. Flood them with calls.

I have the same problem. Went to dealer who told me that it is a known issue but parts not yet available. They will call when parts are in.

I just got a CPO 2016 GLC300 a couple days ago and noticed the screech when reversing out of my garage this morning. It startled me because of how loud it was.

Thanks to everyone reporting this issue. I'll be monitoring the thread and waiting for the official service bulletin.

GLC 300 4W (2016)
GLC300 4W - build date 05/28/2016 - 6,000 miles

I am new to the forum and do not believe a script I wrote earlier got posted. My apology if this is a duplicate.

Took the car in Thursday and the Service Advisor looked up the latest Local Information (LI):
LI42.10-P-063978 (front)
LI42.10-P-065058 (rear).

I then left an extensive VM to:
Darrell
Executive Referral Manager - MBUSA
(800) 367-6372 ext. 4632
asking for the procedure to be notified for when a fix is available, i.e., per his email quoted in a previous posting. Instead, I received a stock Mercedes-Benz Customer Experience Survey form from a Kevin. You can imagine my rating.

What is it with this company that asks the customer to have to continually search for information themselves to resolve a problem. The Service Advisor advised "We'll look it up again when you bring it in for the 10k checkup." Fat chance SA, you come listen to it every morning screeching loud enough to wakeup the sleeping dead. The very least would be for a commitment from Darrel to keep the thread updated from time to time so that its subscribers would be notified that a pertinent posting has happened.

I'm headed over to the J.D.Powers website to see if I can rescind my 2 month evaluation.

I also have the same problem, a horrible screeching noise when I back out of the driveway in the morning. Seems to be worse on colder mornings. I called dealership and was told it's a known issue. I was told that they're waiting for parts to come in.

According to the Executive Referral Manager, this is now in the hands of Daimler engineers overseas who are still "reviewing". They have provided no estimate for when it will be resolved.

MBUSA has stopped work on brakes and is researching the problem

Hi everyone,
We purchased our GLC in Jan 2016, and have had continuous screeching problems since. Our car is less than a year old, 10,000 miles, been brought into the dealership 4x+ for the same problem. Because of a supposed "nation wide" problem, all work has been stopped, so this last visit no work was performed and we were sent home with a statement by MBUSA that there is a bulletin that states that once the "research is concluded and comes out with a solution" we will be notified.
This response is unacceptable from Mercedes Benz, so I am pursuing the lemon law in our state. Has anyone else taken any legal action or gone further in trying to resolve this issue? It's so frustrating and embarassing!!

I understand the frustration, but what more might anyone expect? I suspect MB is trying to find a solution. And you have brought it in multiple times...and they tried. Finally, it's an annoyance. It's not a safety, performance, comfort (yeah I guess the noise isn't comfortable) thing, and is screeching for a few seconds really that big a deal? What is it you want.. other than a fix?

Legally it can, if MB cannot fix it and his complaints and visits are documented. I'm not suggesting I'd pursue a lemon law for it, but I can understand the frustration.

That is interesting, because we were also considering the lemon law if it can not be fixed. We have had our GLC at the dealership 3 times and next week will be 4. I know that sounds drastic, but the brakes are so noisy, that it is totally unacceptable. I have never heard brakes squeak this load. Everyone comments that you need new brakes or rotors. Mercedes should be embarassed that there luxury SUV is doing this.

GLC's have had this problem for a year now and Mercedes should have figured out a permanent fix by now. None of Mercedes other cars have this issue, so should not be too hard to figure out/fix.

So, when we called to make another appointment for our screeching brakes today, our dealer just put us on a list, that they said is about a month long waiting for a fix. Crazy, Mercedes can not figure this out and unaccaceptable.

I wonder when Motor Trend did there SUV of the year test, if they did not drive it in the cold weather time? I am guessing not, as it definitely would not have won if they were constantly getting the screeching brakes sounds.

Everything about the GLC is really good, except for the brakes.

A gaggle of MB's
Just to be "factual" - this brake squeal issue - when reported 90% of the time in reverse - is under Engineering Review/Solution when done will issue corrective/new part#'s and shop procedure.

Yes - when the problem 1st developed MB instructed dealers to replace pads - it was not know at that time if this was a "not good part" issue.

When replacing the pads with fresh production pads - same part# - then did NOT solve the problem - this issue was assigned to for Engineering Review/Solution.

There are no updates or communications to retail from the Engineering Review/Solution group other than when the engineering group has published the solution.

I have had 1-out-of-15 or so with this issue - and frankly we have told those customers where we are at -and that we "should" know more after the 1st of the year.

Mine only does it in reverse. Does basically every time I have to slowly reverse. I can make it squeal louder if I go slower.

Car also groans when starting/stopping at low speeds.

GLC 2016 Brake

My brake started making noise even moving forward now.
It is reproducible every single time I press the brake.

I talked to MBUSA.
The person who I talked was "Kyla"
She did not really care much about the complaint and stated that getting "minor" noises from the brake is perfectly normal.
I told her that it is not minor noise, but she refused to fix my brake under warranty anymore and told me to fix it with out of my own pocket.

Since I cannot handle this issue anymore,
I just filed the lemon lawsuit with all my past repair histories and video evidences.
I love my GLC except this brake problem.
Hope MBUSA finds out the problem and call for recall.

Brake squeal in reverse

Call our MB service department about our GLC and were told MB is aware of the problem but as an earlier post stated they are not to swap parts anymore because it has not been resolving the problem. Added our name to their list once a solution is in place.

Has anyone filed a complaint to NHTSA about this issue? Mercedes says it is not a safety issue, but if they don't even know how to resolve it, how can they be sure? I think any owners with this issue should file a complaint, including me.

Why waste the Gov's and a business's time on this? Fix the noise, sure. But that's not the roll of the the NHTSA. As far as not being sure, that can be said about a ton of items in almost any vehicle. What if's? Really? Sad that that's the way some may think.
What safety issue concerns you?

Agree, this is not a safety issue. It is a nuisance that needs to be fixed. I have been lucky so far and do not have the issue.
