Man, good luck. If this happens to be the case on mine I will raise hell for sure.

I noticed an annoying "feature".
Picture my wife driving the car, parks the car, and talks on the phone using the hands-free bluetooth connection.
The driving position and dash is set to her profile.

I arrive to the car, we switch places, she's still on her call, and I cannot switch driver profiles. The place where you press to change it (immediately to the right of the Home icon in the top left corner) displays the call timer. Pressing that brings up the bluetooth call in progress.

Shutting the engine off, opening/closing the driver's door, restarting the engine, nothing will work to bring up the driver profile screen. Since her call was very important, I could not ask her to hang up. It was quite frustrating. Whether the call was routed through the car speakers, or via her handset made no difference.

Next time this happens, I will try plugging her phone to start CarPlay. Perhaps that will allow the display of the driver profile. What do you guys think?

Well, as long as you have your seat & mirror settings as one of the buttons when her profile is on, you should at least be able to drive away without much ado. Not ideal, though.

Failure to restart, again

This is getting a little disconcerting.
I'm taking it back in next Monday and they are going to gather more data, do some software updates and open another case with Mercedes.

Did you have to disconnect the battery like I did?

Oh oh - just noticed that yours is a 350 - thought this was a 450 only issue.
Was prepared to deal with this maybe a couple times with my 450 gets here but if this should happen to wife (350) on her way home I'm certain that it will be her last day in that car.

Worst quality car I've owned was a 2001 4.4 X5 - everything broke... but it never left me stranded.
Hope that internally this is being treated as a priority - there does seem to be an issue.

I taught my wife in a couple minutes how to disconnect the battery and put a 10mm combination wrench in the glove box. It only takes a couple minutes to do and for now is the workaround. My '98 ML left us stranded once when the key quit communicating with the vehicle, but none since have.

These options have gone away for me for some reason. Maybe has something to do that the battery was disconnected a couple days ago?

So I ordered a custom built 2020 Mercedes GLE 450 4Matic for my wife which is a brand new model which came out this spring. It has the latest and greatest technology with 2 huge video screens, semi-autonomous driving, and all kinds of high tech stuff. But BEWARE of Quality!!!!

After 3 weeks of ownership and 2,000 miles while driving on a busy street, the Check Engine Light comes on suddenly, and the Vehicle goes into limp mode with no warning! Now it will only go 5 to 10 mph on a very busy street. I need to move over to the curb to pull over, but cars are wizzing by! I finally pull over to the curb and block the far right lane and shut off the vehicle and shut it back on to reset the computer. The car now accelerates normally but the Check Engine Light stays on! I take it in for service the next morning and it takes them over ONE WEEK (actually 2 weeks and 170 miles of their driving) to diagnose and fix the problem.

This vehicle is not assembled in Stuttgart, Germany but is assembled in Alabama. After multiple tries they diagnose that on assembly, 3 or more pin connector wire connections were NOT MADE to the accelerator pedal!!! How does that even happen! Where is the Quality Control? Why did the Check Engine Light not come on right away?

If this had put me in limp mode on a busy Interstate which I drive very frequently with 70mph speed limit, then it would not have been precarious, it would have been LIFE THREATENING!!! This makes me disappointed and a bit angry! Having owned Mercedes for 32 consecutive years, I will hesitate the next time, and will definitely avoid Mercedes not assembled in Germany.
@drksuh I'm truly sorry for that BAD experience. It must have been so disappointed for you!
I too have been (first owner) owning / driving MB vehicles for 24 years and fortunately so far the experience has been good with 2 (out of 3) MB's.
This 3rd one (2020 GLE SUV) so far has been solid on the ride-related aspects (handling, making turns, lane changing, accelerating and breaking, interior noise insulation,) and many MBUX smart features where I use mostly voice commands..

However, the one thing that is really annoyed to me is MBUX Navigation which is, IMHO, defective in may critical navigational aspects:
  1. Bogus routing results: so many times I set local destinations to my familiar locations just to verify if M-Benz Navigation has been improved, MBUX navigation had determined routes that were totally non-sense, way much longer, and often involving long U-turns. Comparing to identical destination on Google Map the arrival time was likely to be 15-25% longer consistently
  2. In one instance of a local neighborhoods florist destination, MBUX twice directed me to the wrong way of one-ways local streets
  3. Providing wrong speed limits when I was on a 40-MPH with a 65-MPH. I wanted to take picture of this but unfortunately I was driving
  4. MBUX Navigation failed to accomplish the same visual effectiveness and intelligence of appropriate auto zooming where zooming is necessary. I used Google Map zooming behavior as a reference here
I supposed this defect is not limited to whether the vehicle was assembled in Germany or not, but just want to share another negative aspect of quality.

While having a chip in the windshield repaired, the technician cautioned against using rainx. He said it effects the glass in such a manner as to make it more prone to rock chips. I'm not a chemist but the technician has been in the business for a long time so II just don't use rainx. Oops, I know this thread is not about rainx but my reply was meant as a reply to a previous post here. I thought it would show up at the post I replied to not at the end.

I'm not sure about softening, but I haven't used Rain-X on the windshield in many years. I found that you will have to use your wipers at slow speeds, and once you start doing that they become smeary and chatter. The Tesla owner's manual says this, "Cautions for Exterior Cleaning - Caution: Do not use windshield treatment fluids. Doing so can interfere with wiper friction and cause a chattering sound"

  2. Eco Start/Stop engine
    1. Compared with the loaner C300 and my friend's BMW X2, the Eco Start/Stop makes the engine starting too obvious and shakes the entire car. Especially when the engine starts up to power the A/C. But service dept can't find any error code and claimed it's same as the other GLE in shop.
It shaking my GLE also. So I am turning Eco off every time I start the car, but this is annoying. Is there a way to turn off Eco features permanently?

Eco Start/Stop

So you must have a 350 (add to your profile)? In my 450 starting is almost imperceptible, so I never turn the feature off. When you turn it off with the button, does it come back on next time you drive the car?

ECO start/stop

Hi Greg. Thanks for your reply. I have GLE 450. When I turn it off with the button, indeed it comes back on next time you drive the car. SO I have to turn it off every time I start the car, which is annoying. I get minor vibration but gas savings are marginal: perhaps a couple of dollars per tank refill and I only drive 2000 miles a year.

Another issue I have: the Parktronic is parking the car too far from the curb.
My previous GLE 2016 did it perfectly well.

I took it to dealer and they said that all similar models behave the same way.

One of the praises for the 450 is that the stop/start system works brilliantly compared to other cars because it uses the 48volt battery, works really well on mine. All the new cars are programmed so that stop/start comes on when car is started and you have to physically turn it off, I believe it is something to do with emission testing.

All my previous cars I have turned it off immediately after starting car but not in the 450 as you have no judder, if yours is juddering when it operates it is a fault, ask the dealer to let you try the system on another 450 to compare to yours.
