Xenon Headlight Swap? / LED Tail Light Swap?

Hi all.

I am new to the forums. Just took delivery of a 2012 GLK350 this last Saturday. I am very happy with it so far, but it does not have the lighting package, and I really miss having xenons.

Does anyone know if it's possible to swap out the entire headlight assemblies with the OEM bi-xenon headlights?

Same question for the LED tailights.

Besides having problems with the wiring adapters, I think something would have to be re-coded.

I am new to the MB world, so please be patient.

If your intention is to replace your std. lights with a complete factory OEM BiXenon setup, the cost is around $3-4 thousand bucks and therefore not done very often, if at all. As you know it's MUCH MORE than simply swapping out headlight assemblies. There are new harnesses involved and adaptors have been tried. I know it exists, actually someone did have success with this but I cannot locate his thread. There are however, many references to those that are very unhappy they didn't go for the Bi-Xenons, as it does, according to Consumer Reports, make a world of difference.

There are retrofitted aftermarket conversion set ups from as low as $69.99. Of course they will never be the same as factory systems, with the turning feature etc., but they do help with visibility.

The tails are easy. I believe it's just a simple bolt off, bolt on. You may need to reset STAR or it will throw a code.

It looks like there is way too much involved for the headlights. I will get a good quality HID kit.

The tail lights actually seem pretty reasonably priced.

Do you recall what was involved to do the tail lights?

I think the HIDs headlights are too involved for an easy swap.

Ordered Philips HID kits for the low beams and fog lights.

Also ordered a set of OEM LED tail lights.

Regarding the HID kit installation, can anyone help me with two questions?

#1- Can plug and play kits be used, or is a relay required drawing power directly from the battery? I know some cars will cause the HIDs to flicker without the relay setup.

#2 - Are resistors required? Will the HIDs trigger an error?

Philips sells an additional harness with resistors and a relay built in that connects to the battery and plugs directly to the ballasts. Think the cost was $90-95. Not that difficult to hook up. No splicing. All plug-ins. I've got the harnesses on both my GLK and C300. No flickering and no errors.
