Hi there, I am trying to do this swap and have found a head unit locally.. The number is A2208205989 and your part number is A2208205889.. is there a difference? I don't want to buy something that won't work.. Thanks!

Thanks Chris! I am about to tackle this job in the next day or so.. couple questions if you don't mind. I am in the US so I can't get a speed signal converter from you.. do you know the part number or what/where they were originally? Can I get one out of a donor car? Also, can I not use the GPS ant. that my Comand 2.5 has? I have to add another one? And if so, where does it go and can I get that from an 03 donor car?
Also if you have any part numbers that would be great!

I am the only one selling the speed converter. Not a MB part. Why would you not be able to buy it from me?
No, You can not use the one you have. You must have a new on. Aftermarket or donar is ok. Just buy a Comand 2.0 antenna like in the W210 and W203.

Well I am trying to get this finished up without having to wait 3 weeks for a part from overseas, if you were local I would have already bought it from you.. I thought these units were on all the cars that had this unit because they didn't come built in like the 2.5..? Your saying this is a special build part?

Also, If I do need this converter, what is the price and availability? Also, I am looking at the 2.5 to 2.0 and there is alot of different things I don't see.. I see Ctel wake up on 2.5 but not 2.0, so what will happen with phone? I see reversing signal on 2.0 but not 2.5, and speed signal one 2.0 but speed signal left and right on 2.5.. there are many more that don't look like they simply switch over.. Any ideas? Thanks

Yes I just said that. Only I have them. Price is on the site. Yes about 3 weeks delivery. You have the pin out in this thread. It sure aint plug n play. It is a bit tricky but it works.

UPDATE: This was the absolute easiest mod I have ever done, it took all of ten minutes. On US cars you just need the HU and trim. The antenna for radio and GPS fit fine, there is no need for a speed signal converter, all buttons work fine, radio, CD, phone, changer, steering controls are great, everything is beautiful! All I did was change 4 wires around, that was all.. the hardest part was cleaning up the dremel dust because you have to shave the dash pretty good, it's a tight fit.. what a difference too! The phone features are WAY better! It does SMS, and it tells me the NAMES of the people who call not just the numbers, and it also shows how many missed calls I have! Also when you turn the car off and someone calls within 5 minutes the HU comes back on and so does cluster and you can still take the call! It's great! I bought this unit for $400 and am selling my old one for $200 so this was a great mod!

GREAT news. Yes it clearly seems you dont need the converter then in the US. This is the second time I hear it works without. Strange. Same with the antenna. Euro version have totally different comectors.

You need to look at the pin outs on this page and I think page 2.. but for a US car you won't have the C1 or the round connector, all you need to worry about is C2.. The only wires you need to move are 7, can bus shield, 8 can bus low or hi, and 9 the other can bus (low or hi).. then you need to move the D2B wake up also.. all of these are on the same connector, they just need to be moved around, you will have another big connector that won't be used anymore, I am not sure you need to do this as Sunil the retrofit expert says this unit takes it's speed signal from the canbus but I did it anyway, and that is I took the green/white wire out of the big connector which is speed sensor left and moved it to the speed sensor connection on C2.. that's it! You are good to go at that point..

Recently bought 2 Mercedes- 2000 S430 & a 2002 ML320. The head units in these seem to be pretty outdated. My wife and I have been enjoying satellite radio for some time so that is a must for us. We are used to using our iphones for navigation. Anyway....
I agree with Chris the Swede about keeping the look of the dash clean. I believe we will be the last owners on these cars so I am not concerned about resale. So I am not terribly enthusiastic upgrading to 6-7 year head unit. Is their a newer Mercedes head unit that will work that has satellite radio to keep the look better? Would like to upgrade to the same unit for each car.

Chris the Sweede: I started using my navigation today and it isn't reliable.. it will drop out which I am told is because the speed sensor wire.. I am told I need to find a speed sensor wire from either the ABS unit or cruise control etc., or purchase a canbus adapter that converts signal to analog.. I figure your speed control converter is a canbus adapter but maybe a more personalized one for this car.. everything on the HU works great, but I would like my navigation to be more reliable.. The problem is, I really hate waiting 3 weeks to have it shipped overseas.. do you have these in stock? I will look into shipping costs unless you have a better idea. Thanks!
Not on stock. Have to make them. Shipping would cost about $30 in trackible letter.

I went through your checkout process until the end and the unit is $228USD.. that is a little priceier than what I expected but if I have to pay that I guess I have to, but I really can't wait three weeks, is there anyone in America you know of who may have one available? Even if I have to pay extra.. I was told by Mercedes that a part from Germany would take 2 days to get to the US.. how quickly can I get this unit from Sweeden?
Out of curiousity.. is there anything you know of in America I can make to do the same job? I am in the computer field by trade.. I would even pay you if you could help guide me..

As I said. It has to be made first. Then shipped to me from the maker and then I ship to you. I can ship express but will cost more of course. NO ONE else have it. Trust me. And the shipping quote on the site is not always corect for overseas shipments so that has to be looked into as well. And Sweden is still spelled with 2 "e" and not 3 as you always do overseas. I wonder why? .
