07 S550 Engine Knock/ ticking sound?
Hey Guys,
I have an 07 S550. I drove it yesterday without any issues, I woke up this morning and started the vehicle, it started making a very loud knocking/ticking noise. I popped the hood and it seems to be coming from the engine. I immediately turned the engine off. Are there things i should look at or check first? any suggestion what the problem might be?

Okay, so i did an oil change and i also changed the oil filter, that didnt fix the problem. Im getting a VERY loud knocking/ticking noise. Seem to becoming from the front of the engine. I'm thinking about changing the spark plugs to see if that fixes the problem. Could it be a spark plug/coil issue? Also, does anyone have a DIY on how to change the spark plugs?

Noisy Purge Valve????
Before you get into serious engine work, check the fuel vapor purge valve. It's located right behind the window washer reservoir, attached to a rubber mount. Mine's noisy but is has always been so maybe I'm not as alarmed as you. The unique characteristic to the noise is that it speeds up and slows down and has NO rhythm of the engine.

Okay Guys, Thanks for your input. I did a second inspection and noticed the ac compressor pulley completely came off. I found the pulley laying underneath the engine. The serpentine belt is grinding on whats left of the metal edge of the ac compressor. As a result, i was told the issue is a faulty ac compressor. I ordered a brand new compressor, receiver drier and Expansion valve. Im thinking about doing the job myself. Does anyone have a DIY on replacing these? How hard is it? Thanks
