S550 saved my life tonight...
Tonight I was leaving the gas station from filling my tank. I made it three blocks when a kid ran a stop sign and tboned me at the drivers side front door.. He hit me HARD. The air bags deployed and saved me. My head would have gone thru the glass if it wasn't for the curtains..
I'm not even mad! Car is 2 months old but it's insured, and it was his fault clearly.. I am just greatful for being not only alive but being completely un hurt after sustaining such a horrible it. Hardest hit of my life.. Well I will absolutely be buying another one of these cars!!

I am sorry to hear that happening ,you left the car unscathed that was important . I believe not only airbags but also body robustness of the car helped you saving your life .
May you drive incident free

Great to hear you are ok.
My 1995 S320 saved my life when I was rearended at 45MPH while stopped at a stop light.
From that day forward I was sold on MB and the S class. Looking to purchase a 2008 S550
4 matic in the next couple weeks.

People here like to nit-pick little problems with their S-classes....but they seem to forget that they are rolling in a tank that is extremely safe.
Glad to hear you walked away from that hit....hopefully only with some bruises.

Thanks guys, this car really is a rolling tank. I tried to post pictures from my phone but it didn't work I will transfer them to my computer later.. I was doing about 35 and the guy blew thru a stop sign, at about the same speed I guess with no headlights on! He lives a block away and must have just jumped in the car and took off like a bat out of hell.. All I know is that hit was the hardest hit I've ever taken, and the side airbag caught my head and stopped it from going thru the glass.. His car was a late model Camry, completely totaled, I mean bad.. his hood and front of his car was buckled so bad, and there were pieces of his car everywhere.. fire dept. came out etc.. I slid into another parked Camry, but the MB faired VERY well for such a hit.. the door was completely tweaked but it held it's structure, for such a hit I thought I would have been pinned in the car, but it held! I can see either the sway bar or something snapped clean under the tire, bumper, hood, headlight, fender, door, mirror, airbags, suspension etc all took hits so I can't see how it couldn't be a total.. I just hope I get my money out of it.. It books in excellent condition, which it was, at 31.8k.. I paid about that after taxes, etc.. plus I put a grand or two in extras in the month and a half I owned it.. I am gathering all my reciepts for everything to get reimbursed.. I will probably break even sadly enough, but its ok, I'm alive and I know exactly what I am getting next, ANOTHER S550!! This time I know more about them too!

Here are some pictures, keep in mind it looks WAY better than it would have been had it been another car.. I got hit HARD. I could feel my insides jolt from the impact.. I am convinced I'd be very hurt in another car.

Ouch! The car is a tank on wheels and I think you are very lucky.
Whatever you do, don't sign anything from the insurance company about not being injuried. You often don't feel things for a few days and it's not worth their $500 payout to say your fine.

Well it looks like his insurance is junk, so it will probably be my insurance paying and then going after him.. I just can't believe how hard I was hit, and how well it fared, it blows me away.. I have been hit before, I know a light or bad hit.. I am certain any other car I would have been pinned in.. He sent my car flying when he hit me.. I am certain that has to be a total, what do you guys think?
I have a picture of either the sway bar or something broken off clean, plus who knows what else, you can see the bumper, grille, hood, fender, headlight, door, mirror, below the door, all the side airbags, etc.. I can't see how that wouldn't total a $32k car.. I just added up all my receipts I've spent on it in the last two months on goodies and minor things, and it's $5k!! I am sending them all my receipts, they better take care of all of that too!

Most people do not survive a T bone crash. Good thing you are in a Mercedes when this unfortunate event happened.

I 2nd the above. I would go to the emergency room and your doctor's office immediately and get proper documentation of your injury even if they are minor and also get some x-rays done. You never know what might come creeping up in your body later from this accident. Take care!

Well guys Geico called me today and told me it's a total loss.. They are paying me $34k plus taxes and paying me not all, but some of the other $2,500 I spent on it.. I am happy because I will come out even or a little above, and that way I atleast feel like I will have a good chance at getting another car that clean.. Everyone thought that was a brand new car with the paper plates on it..
I am very happy with Geico, my insurance company. They will I am sure go after the other guy's company but they plan to have a check for me on Friday, that is absolutely wonderful service and I can't speak highly enough of them.. They have been great thru this whole thing!!

I agree, I would never touch a salvage.. I knew mine would be totaled but I would have been mortified if it hadn't.. I would have to have taken the loss because I would have never kept it.. I think of how hard I was hit the other night, and all those computer systems in that car.. I wouldn't trust any of that anymore.. The car in the link above has a salvage and water damage title.. I wouldn't touch that car with a ten foot pole.. God only knows all the gremlins waiting in that car.. and the corrosion which would be on near everything..

I didn't look at it closely, but see it now. How can they say it has "no water damage whatsoever". I read it in full this time. If that vehicle can be bought for $30k and is fine and good shape, is it really worth nothing?
I had a friend in college buy. Salvaged car and saved a lot and the car was fine. Does it automatically mean its junk.

Your hit fortunately was on the A pillar and post and not the center of the door where there's relatively little side impact protection in terms of structure. That pillar area and the attached cowl panel (firewall) on pretty much any modern unibody car is pretty stout. Had you been going a millisecond slower and he'd caught you square on the door you'd have likely bruised or even busted a rib or two, S Class or not.
Geico is certainly being generous with the ACV. I have them as well. It helps that you just bought the car so the value is easy to determine based on what you just got done paying for it. Sounds like you're going to be made whole, less a scary moment and some lost time.

Sorry to hear this happened to you. I was driving once on the freeway when it started to rain. I then was on a curve when the car's tail slipped. I was sure I was gonna lose control but ESP kicked in and saved me. This car is amazing. Hope you replace you car soon.

Yeah one guy said it looked like the front tire/wheel took the brunt of the hit, and that would seem to be, as suspension parts were broken and either the tire or strut was losing air.. I am very lucky and I thank Mercedes and God.
