Hot center console 2010 S550

I think I have a new issue. I don't think I just didn't notice it before.

Has anyone experienced their center console heating up after a long (40+ minutes) drive?
I have noticed recently where I lean my right leg is rather warm.
Also, the wood, Comand knob, and the storage compartment.

Any ideas on the heat source for this? I crawled under the car thinking there may be an exhaust gasket leaking in this area, but there is no joint here.

Thanks in advance.
Tom

I may have a resolution, but it still seems odd to me.
I turned the rear AC controls on (they were previously off) and found the last person had one side of the controls set to 82 degrees.
Maybe even though the rear system was turned off the controller was sending hot coolant back there.
Since the fan wasn't on to dissipate the heat, it just kept heating the console through the tubing?

I have set the temps on the rear controls and my issue with a hot console has disappeared.

That makes sense. Normally you'd only have heat going back there during the winter, when you would either not notice the warm console, or would appreciate it.

My solution may have been reported too soon.
I had someone in the rear of my car over the weekend and they reported hot air coming from the left vent while cool was coming from the right.
It appears I still have an issue to diagnose.

If anyone has guidance, I'm open.

My son recently bought an '08 E550. His is blowing hot air in the back at least some of the time. Apparently they have a known weakness, a diverter valve that goes bad. Under $50 for the part, a couple of hours to replace. I'm wondering if the S-class has the same kind of problem. Mine sometimes blows ice cold air with the A/C on as it should, sometimes acts like it's just vents blowing outside air in (both front and back). There doesn't seem to be a real pattern to when it does what. I checked and topped off the refrigerant, so I don't think that's it.

Thanks for the advice. I checked and the S class does not have the same valve as the E.

New info - if I set the temps all the way to LO, I get nice cold air. Seems I have a control issue.
I suspect a bad temperature sensor for that side.
Does anyone know where the temp sensors are for the rear zones? I assume in the run channel somewhere.

Thanks
Tom

Definitive diagnose have someone pull fault codes using DAS (MB diagnostics). Not certain about rear temp difference between sides but there is one temp sensor in rear (part # 2218300972). See attachments.

Common complaint in several MB models. Be doubly and triply sure the rear climate controls are completely switched off and the temperature settings, prior to switching off, are at the coldest setting. Then conduct the test. This comes up now and again. My GLE exhibited the same phenomenon and it was eliminated by closing rear register vents. My vehicle does not have rear fan or temperature controls.

Thanks Konig.
I'll read these and continue to monitor.

Problem fixed.

After checking the temp sensors in the center console and finding them all to be working normally, I bought a laptop and got set up with Xentry/DAS passthrough software.
Fault code directed me to the front left duovalve. The solenoid controlling hot coolant flow to the left rear passenger failed with an open circuit and was allowing hot coolant to flow constantly.
I continue to be fascinated with the level of engineering on subsystems in this car.

Changed out the valve today (located inside the rear of the right front wheelwell) and am back to perfect function.

Thanks konigstiger and MBENZTECH for the help and education.
