Just talked to my dealer and he informed me that this feature will not be available on the '22s at all. Not standard nor optional. That's a shame. It was one of the coolest things about these cars.

I had a 2022 on order, but got tired of waiting so I bought a 2021 instead that was a similar build.
The sales person gave me a printout of the ordered build and it had 878 Active Ambient Lighting. The car was built in July and the sales person said none of my "options" were deleted as there was talk about some cars being built without the massage seats and lighting (and being deleted for credit). The rear wheel steering was there as well as the 3-D technology/HUD. Build sheets for cars for sale that were missing standard features had a credit for those features. I assumed the car was built as ordered, BUT...
After the car was built the salesperson sent me a new build sheet to show that it is complete, says no deletions, and I should get it soon. Since I read this thread, I re-looked at the new build sheet and it does NOT have 878 Active Ambient Lighting (and no credit).
Since Mercedes Max stated he heard from Mercedes that the 2022's will not be released until December, I bought a 2021. Looks like it was a good call.
My '21 is at the dealer now. First the active ambient lighting stopped working and then the whole top portion went out. I hope it works like normal once it's fixed. It's one of my favorite features as well.

I test drove a '21 that had the active ambient lighting present, but some '21s showed it as deleted with credit. For some reson the '22 build sheets are not showing the deletion or the credit from what I've seen. Also I heard that the active ambient lighting has a very high failure rate.

Looking at the bulletins thread at the top of this forum, almost one half of the bulletins concern active ambient lighting. I was happy when this feature was removed from the standard options in my country (car price compensated accordingly).
Not surprised, if I remember correctly I believe active ambient lighting uses 3-5 extra chips per car, likely an easy way for MB to save chips by cutting this feature all together, and perhaps they are prioritizing the EQS model since that is being built currently.

yes, I believe 4 extra chips. Ambient lighting used 1 and active uses 5. Iirc.
2022 W223 build date 10/21. NO active ambient lighting Top row on dash or Top row 4 doors. Just appears to be a black plastic trim. Not mentioned on build sheet or window sticker. No credit. I'll have to shine a light on the trim to see if it's loaded with LEDs.
Not really a deal breaker as there is still plenty of other LEDs strips and back-lighting in there. The lower LED strips on the dash do change a solid red or blue color when the temperature is adjusted so they are still some what active

Thought changing ambient light colour when adjusting temperature would be part of the active ambient light option but reading the manual makes me assume it is part of the basic ambient light. Would you mind sharing the VIN, or have you yourself looked at the data card?

2022 it was made not standard, so you won’t get a credit for not having it. Also I don’t think the active ambient lights get you more light, I think it just changes the functionality of the lights.

Not true, I have a 2022 wit active ambient lighting
Verified, no mention of 878 Active Ambient Lighting on the build sheet or Window sticker. I could not see if there were LEDs integrated into the upper section trims. Looks solid black. Only have 3 brightness sliders on the MBUX for the ambient lighting. Is the forth slider I see on others for the top line? Maybe it's just out or I No Gotz?

I ordered the 580 October 2020, waited 6 months as the car sat at the port in Baltimore to take deliver Mid July. Fully loaded to the max, Emerald Green brown interior executive line Burmester for $6900 and every option available. 21 champagne flute rims. The works. Why did Mercedes’ think that my car DID NOT deserve to get the fully loaded options yet standard models recieved the Ambient lighting for a measly $750 and the Massage seats. I rathe the lights then the $750, I bought the car because every video Bragging about the interior experience, why did Mercedes opt themselves to remove these 2 key features!!
please Help im suffering. I don’t believe these are chip shortages, from what I am hearing the actual missing component was the LED STRIP THEMSELVES! I have little confidence in retro fitting the lighting and already gave up on even asking about massage seats. If someone has any info on retrofit or this chip shortage claim please respond with some suggestions. I am a 20 year Benz owner and I just lost a lot of confidence that im in the dark about this.
I don’t think active ambient lighting was included on my 2022 vehicle, but when I change the temperature to warmer, the light on the driver’s side turns to red, and when I change it to colder, the light turns blue. Is this part of the active ambient lighting feature or just the standard ambient lighting feature?

You shouldn't ask me, I haven't seen AAL in action but reading other threads at this forum, it certainly appears to be so. Both dash and doors, AAL has the top part covered.
Maybe someday we'll find out it can be added without much fuss if the wiring harnesses are in there and/or we find out what chips or controllers need to be in place along with the LED strips from a wreck.
Active Ambient Light when not functioning as a safety feature or cold/heat notifier when pushing the up/down temperature, includes light strips on upper portion for ambiance. I love it on my 21'.
