The SL will look feminized to the side in that shade, it has unique presence that demands bolder colors

Edit: Even the C63 in Pastel blue looks to be in panties (front shot looks ok but 3/4 rear shot def shows it's sporting G-String)
I totally agree with these comments. Pastel is probably an avoid here

i have to disagree. some of the most famous paint jobs in history have been light blue. enter all the gulf lemans cars. it is pretty iconic. imo the widebody sl certainly has the impact as some of the other exotics listed and can definately pull the color off. it isn't a pastel, as pastels have more of a cream look to them.
i see the voodoo blue every day at a dealership i drive by to work, and it is darker than these pics show. the marathon blue and voodoo blue are nearly identical in person minus the pearl in the marathon. i moved away from the grabber blue as that was a bit lighter.

i am feeling like a one trick pony to go with a color like the marathon blue again. the pita is the full panel repaint when ever a scratch or nick happens. don't get me wrong, i absolutely love that marathon blue, or i wouldn't have done it so many times in the past.

here is my chopper and my old 350Z in the back ground. i painted both royal sapphire pearl. the chopper though i misted with ppg blue to red harlequin over the base, then cleared. crazy to look at, but too much for a whole car imo.

i had to go in the garage and start going through my old paint cans. dark cloisonne blue (c4 grand sport color), daytona blue (350z color), gts viper blue (self explanatory), and the royal sapphire blue. i painted stripes on a white panel with each including the grabber blue and the voodoo blue.
i have to say, color impact by itself...........................phuk, i may be going pearl again. the grand sport blue is a slap in the face. got tons of compliments on that car and got invited with it to show at a big theatre here for the opening of the original fast and furious. yup, painted that color that long ago. haha.

no matter what color is chosen i am well sure not everyone in the world will like it or do it themselves. oh well.

well ladies and gentleman, the time is almost there. a couple more little tiny things and the main body is ready to spray! will be happening tomorrow. will take a day or 2 to get all the other parts 100% ready to spray, then renting a booth wednesday or thursday. start assembling over the weekend! hoping to be road worthy by the following weekend. i have actually scheduled off work till this is finished!
spraying the jambs and rear fenders in my garage, the other 26 parts will be in a booth.

what a long road this has been!

Just curious after all that work and time and money, why would you spray the rear fenders outside a booth? They are a big focus point on the car and wouldn'
t the two environments cause slight variation in the finish?

The veloster is pretty wild. When are you going to decide on the color?

it really won't. i pile on 5 coats of high build clear so it can be color sanded and buffed anyways. i could paint it with a roller and still make it all come out looking the same. lol.
with the booth rental for all the other parts it would take way to long to get car there and then take apart. this way the car itself doesn't need to go anywhere and save on the rental. i'm not talking a couple hours of assemble and dissemble, i am talking days with this car!

while that does look good, painting has already begun. got the rear fenders and jambs done, plus all my little parts like antenna, the 3 parts to make the mirros, door handles and other little stuff.
voodoo blue it is. right out of the gun all the small parts came out perfect. no need to color sand at all, it is glass. the color looks a mile deep. kind of wild really. it is hard to explain. i thought it might be toned down from a pearl blue, but far from it!

heres a pic of one of the mirrors. the depth just has to be seen in person.

fenders and jambs.

it almost hurts to look at in the sun. think all black parts plus wheels will be going gloss instead of satin. edit- color looks very light blue in this pic in sun. the mirror pic reflects more of the true color.

Looking good! The 1st pix w/mirrors..

The color looks much much darker than 1/4 panels in sunlight. I'm sure the finished product w/your skillset will pull the voodoo blue off nicely

I stand corrected! Didn't take into account the massive disassembly! That blue on the mirrors is RAD.

thanks ricker. the color does change quite a bit for just a solid tone. could be the camera though too.
i bought the voodoo blue a few days ago, but, i have to admit, i went to the paint store this morning and almost got the marathon blue. the people at the paint store both agreed the voodoo blue would look better. the paint pole thread also went voodoo blue 2-1, and it was my first choice at the start of this.
i think gloss black on everything else will REALLY make it pop!

well it is finally 12 here and time to call it a night. been out color sanding the fenders before the clear hardens too much. so far so good. this color shows a crazy gloss and reflection, but has some hiding qualities and will tone down the body kit just a touch.

just not a big deal to me really. looks wise i think it could go either way and 99.9% of people out there would never know an updated mirror to an original. can always be changed later if i decide to.
