No need to wait.. you can jump in if you want. I'll add your name to the list as soon as the paypal money hits. The more the better.. It keeps quantity higher and price lower.

Thanks everyone!! Updated payment list and update on meeting.

My CF contact called me in the late afternoon.. He apologized but had to go see a customer and couldnt make it into the office. We rescheduled our meeting for tomorrow morning at 11:00am EST. He promised me high res pics of some product he's already created, a nice tour of the facility (dont know if I can take pics of that or not) and an idea of pricing on the parts we were requesting.

No longer stock '06 E55, A3 3.2 Quattro, GLE 400d, R107 280SL, Golf Polo
As a heat shield sandwich material would not thermotec tape / material be sufficient ? e.g Exhaust Wrap over the inner core and put the CF over the outside ?

Also relatively inexpensive and may give a nice texture...

All that stuff is is a fiberglass fabric weave. I'm sure you could buy it in bulk sheets. It works pretty well and is fairly thin too. Probably the best option for the price-point goal.

Well.. I came back from the meeting a little while ago.. I wasnt able to take pics of the shop or the products because they manufacture carbon fiber and composites for alot of companies out there and most of their work is under NDA with the company they are providing the service for.

But, he promised to email me some high res pics of some of the products that aren't under NDA that they did recently. These guys are a good bunch and I think this will work very well for us. Email should arrive sometime today.

They usually produce parts in a minimum qty of 50 and normally create products for their clients in the hundreds of pieces. I told him that we only had 22 people who pitched in so he is going to give us pricing based on 20 people buying.

The quality is TOP NOTCH!! One of the pieces that I was looking over was an intake box assembly and when I was inspecting the carbon fiber he pointed out that it is the same material and weave that is used on the Koennigsegg..

His CF process is multiple layers and some of those layers are a substance (I forget what he called it) which helps to insulate the inside of the box from heat. I asked him about adding our own heat reflectant, and while he said we could definitely do it, he said it was probably overkill and not needed.

I re-stated my concern that the number one priority is QUALITY. It was funny, cause he said, "Are you familiar with the Renntech airbox??".. I almost burst out laughing.. He said that they make a good quality CF and he guarantees that it will be equal or better in quality. That's good to know.

Now, since I am doing all this legwork anyways, I thought I would go all out..

He is going to do a mold for the airboxes, the front engine cover, and the 2 airtubes. The airboxes are the ones we are targetting our price point of $1500 at. The other 2 pieces will be optional items that you guys can purchase if you want them. I'm going to pay to make the molds and get them made regardless because I think it they will finish off the engine bay and make the product stand out from what is out there now.

We are now just waiting on the Renntech box to get this all started. He didnt want to start on just the airtubes because he said he needs everything at the same time so that fitment can be tested, etc...

Hopefully the box arrives soon..

BTW, Thanks guys for trusting me with your hard earned money!

It's great that we were all able to come together and work on this project.. Even though most of us have never met each other (I've talked to quite a few of you guys on the phone & gal now) it's a great thing when everyone is willing to help each other. I have no doubt that this group R&D thing might be more and more popular in the future.

To you guys:

Thank YOU for stepping up to do the legwork on this stuff! With the limited number of vendors and products being developed, this type of collaboration is about the only way we can expect to see any "new" product development. Especially now that these motors are "old news", most of the current vendor's R&D money will be shifted towards the new models.

Ken,

I've been checking all morning.. Only 4 payments came in this morning and none were from the "Jansen****" email you stated. They were all accounted for as members in the group.

Please verify that she didnt send to the wrong email.. my paypal is: VRUS1@HOTMAIL.COM...

Just in case she made a spelling error and sent it to someone else.

Very kind of you to offer. I wish I could make a CF airbox for your car. If this product turns out the way everyone wants, there is no reason why we cant do it for another model benz (if we can get enough people to come together and chip in).

Don,

That's a good point. The focus that vendors have is on the NEXT model car.. They have to fight to get their stuff out first so they are producing ahead of the curve and trying to ride out that product life-cycle.

I make my living working in the "computer" field (I love what I do)... Cars is my other passion. I just love everything about them. In fact, if I could make a living doing this type of stuff, I would probably make the switch.

I was going to ask if you could get a price for the front engine cover. I was looking at purchasing one and I wanted to make sure that the CF would match up. Please keep us posted on what the pricing is going to be for this.
Thanks again for all of the work.

Cool, just one problem. I already bought the renntech c/f one I may be stepping up to play with the big boys soon and purchase a 211 E55 and if I do I'll be buying your intake.
