Just Spoke With ASP About Pulley Upgrade

They have them in stock and now include the belt for $895. They claim 45hp Can I get away without ECU upgrade?

Did you ask them what they thought about it while you were on the phone with them?

I've been thinking of doing the same mod. I've been having trouble finding contact info for ASP.. do they have a website or anything? Also, I wonder if you can get something like evosports stage 1 ecu software? It might not be perfect to the ASP pulley, but surely it helps some?

Well I called them back and spoke with another person and was told it will give 45 HP to the wheels I asked with all that extra HP what about ECU upgrade and he said you don't need it. I asked about other turner that sell it with their kits and he said that's the way they make their extra pocket change

Their web page is www.aspracing.com but you wont find the E55 on there yet.

you dont need it , but it is better for the car.

I have been running without an ECU flash for 9 months and no problems.

but If i was keeping the car, I would do it.

I'm planning on the ECU and Pulley for the E55.

ASP sounds like a good deal and since I'm in So Cal, I can use powerchip.

so it will run $2k total (ecu and chip)...

If you're going to get more than just a pulley and ecu down the line, stay with one shop and use their stuff...they don't want to mix and match pieces.

For the ASP pulley, you can save a $100 with these guys:

I did not do the ECU since I am waiting to do the Kleeman Headers, but I also used these guys and they were very inexpesnive, just make sure they used UPS or you will be waiting for ever through canada post. Thye had to send me a second pair since the first one never made it through canada post.

Does anyone have a Dyno (w/ A/F) or Track run with just the ASP Pullies (no ecu)? I think evidence showing save operations and HP gains would probably start a buying frenzy. I know I'd get it!

I'm guessing that you would get great low rpm HP, but as your A/F drops off, your ecu would just pull timing so you dont cause damage. So, you really wouldnt get the benefit full rpm range HP.

Thanks, AJ

I don't know how true it is, but I have read in other posts that the E55 runs rich in stock configuration on the high end of rpms. With the pulley mod alone it does not bring the mixture lean enough for the ECU to pull back the timing. I still have my doubts and would like to see a before and after dyno also.

If you take your car in for service with this mod alone, is it likely that the dealer service would spot it and void the warranty for related failures?

Here's the link for the dyno with just an asp pulley.

Try a search for asp pulley...a lot of this stuff has been covered in detail before.

Nearly 50HP but no AF ratio that I can see.

Do you have a dyno showing A/F? That's what everyone is concerned about - running too lean with the extra boost.

When you look at the dynos linked above it looks like the stock HP curve stays fairly flat in the higher RPM range to redline. Power starts falling off on the pulley upgrade dyno after 5700 rpm. You have to wonder if the mixture may be going a bit lean. Very nice improvement over stock but I would also want to see the A/F.

The A/F curve is really rich in that part of the RPM range - I doubt that there is a lean condition. I would be more concerned lower in the RPM range, before it goes pig rich.

Since it's a stock car, the power fall off is probably due to an airflow restriction, most likely the exhaust manifold.

Does the power increase from ASP were from raised boost or just merely an under-drive pulley that slows down the accessories? From the descriptions of K1's website it said no where that the ASP pulley changed the boost level, if that's the case that's a alot of power increase from a under-drive pulley?

ASP pulley is a larger crank pulley, making the SC spin faster, more boost.

I clearly recall that the ecu upgrades lean out the afr to make more power because the stock programming plays it super-safe. My thought is that if the tuners lean out the mixture then there should be nothing to worry about by using the pully upgrade by itself.

Has anyone personally performed a pulley install? I recall a member here had a terrible experience that destroyed his crankshaft when a pulley install went awry.

Been told that I can even run Pulleys with Headers without ECU....ECU just optimizes everything...

BUT scary part that I have been told and there is some thead in C 203 forum that ASP pulleys can fall apart and cuase big damage ot engine ???

So do you guys thin they can really fall a part cause of the way they made or cauase of wrong installation ??? I am bit scared to install them NOW...

On the other hand all other aftermarket pulleys except Evosport are re-wroked MB pulleys as well as ASP jsut with diff diameters....

So there are more questions then answers. Duh! Someone at ASP should just go and do a proper dyno, this way it'll answer everyones concerns. I'm sure after posting it, at least 50 people will buy them.
