Bumper, grill and hood are all required replacements. And I'm pretty sure that means the innards of your front clip as well.

True that. The inards will need some modifying.

Your worst nightmare...
So how much did you spend? And what were the key elements? I am thinking of doing it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

a user in the non amg w211 forum said that he had a new 2007 front end installed and that the grill was the only part of the hood that needed to be replaced. Since the amg and non amg cars have the same hood this should hold true for the E55 as well.

So in the case of the non amg car he needed fog lights, plastic grills, the bumper cover and the bumper inserts. That should not be THAT expensive but still a nice chunk of change.

Check on that, as I thought the hood did need to be replaced. the only main concern area would be the shape of the grill. The E55s fit up into the hood, whereas the '07 Es have a rounded top to the grill that fits it from the front. I just don't see how the hood would be the same?

Jangy,

Took the liberty of doing a search for that thread that involved face lift without changing the hood...

granted you were told it was needed. There could be a chance that it did not and if a different owner did it without then there clearly is something funny here.

Sometimes one shop does not know 100% what is compatable and well you might have purchased an extra hood.

I dont know for sure but what you were told could be wrong and what this other person was told could be wrong as well.

Best way is to buy the grill and see what happens when you bolt it on.

When you want to give the car a facelift, do it right and not just the half of it! Even the MB star is different!

But about the hood is an intresting question!

The shop who did my car had an E63 as reference and he told me that the grill didn't fit on the old hood! So see the pictures and check on the connections and see that the grill is much different than the old one.

I not know what the other man did with his grill, to fit it on his non AMG, but I'm very curious!

And my apologies for my dirty car......

Just for giggles, I'll get Roger ('07E63) to test fit my grill when he gets back from vacation next week and we will know for sure. If they are indeed interchangeable, I prefer the E55 grill, but the E63 bumper cover. I think the E63 with the E55 grill would be hot. The E63 grill and chrome look fogs are the only part of the E63 I do not like (visually).

I like the stealthy look of the E63 front (grill and bumper)!

Firstly I had to get used to the new looks, but now I like it! It gives the car a complete modern design again!

But tastes are different!
