I am due for a brake job soon. The front rotors will be replaced. Do I need to buy the whole front brake pad set or just the pads and the brake sensors only, along with the front rotors...of course?? Can I used my OEM brake parts if I just want to change out the pads? Thanks for the help!
Mike
Brake pad set, including sensors - $237 DO I NEED THIS????
Brake pads - $37 (ebay - replacing OEM)
Brake sensors - $7 each
Zimmerman - $120 each (front)

Make sure that you are looking at W211 AMG E55 Brake parts
seems your posted prices are low
Front and Rear Brake rotors have a MIN Wear spec marked on the brake rotor
use a mic to measure the thickness
Several choices on brake parts
Aftermarket pads offer low dust and better wear
Also one can have the rotors cryo dipped for longer life of the brake rotors
Porterfield has great brake pads and can do the cryo treatment

I would agree with Mark that your prices are low. The sensors for $7 may be correct.
I switched my front pads to akebono and was very happy with their performance and lack of dust. Price was around $300 iirc.
Rotors at $120? Didn't change mine but that sounds low. Nobody in Dallas wanted to cut them either.

Screw the OEM pads. They suck!
Switch out to full ceramics, like akebono's, posi-quiet ceramic, porterfield, etc. Most importantly, they eliminate about 98% of that annoying brake dust that you get 5 miles after leaving the carwash. They are also a lot more resistant to heating.
You would definitely like ceramics.

You can get all new parts for $310. It sounds like you have a source for the drilled Zimmerman rotors..2x$120. Rockauto has a Monroe pad set on sale now..they will cost you $56 after rebate. And then 2 sensors for $14...that equals $310, right. I am using the Monroe DX pads and Zimmerman rotors. I am very happy with them.

Any of these options I just listed are light-years ahead of the crappy OEM Mercedes pads. The OEM pads are old-school technology, and ceramics are the new deal.
Ceramics perform better than regular pads, but that doesn't even float my boat. It's eliminating that stupid Benz brake dust that I'm the happiest about. With every mercedes I've owned, you could barely drive around the block before the front wheels turn nasty black, and the rears wouldn't be far behind.
Since switching to ceramics (I have the akebonos), I have not had to clean my wheels even once. If I'm busy and I have to go a couple weeks between car washes, the wheels are usually the cleanest part of the whole car by the time I get it washed. It's a night and day difference, and by far the best $200 I ever spent.

EBC Yellow Pads
I changed to EBC Yellow Pads, they're ceramic, no noise or squeaking. Also, some on the board may disagree, but you may be able to use your existing rotors given you have limited miles on the rotors (mine had 34k and they were fine), they pass a visual inspection and if you don't plan on tracking the car.

Quick question my friend. Do you have ANY problems with cold braking? Since Yellows are MORE of a track pad, I went with REDS even though I go to the track a couple of times a year. Also, the Yellows have some Kevlar in them and I hear that they can squeal. Just curious.

The only issue I noticed as far as performance quirks for them being a track-compound pad are that the first one or two stops you make when the brakes are cold, like after sitting overnight, will require a little more pedal pressure to generate the same stopping power. They get a lot grabbier when they warm up a bit.
But it's nothing major, and certainly nothing unsafe. Actually, I doubt you'd even notice it, given the W211's brake-by-wire system. Once they warm up a little, the performance is as good or better than street-designed ceramics. I don't think you would have any issues with them.

Oh ya, one more thing.
The difference between ceramics that squeal and ceramics that don't boils down to who remembers to smear the MB anti-squeal paste all over both sides of the shim, and the backs of the pads. You can order it online from autohausaz.com, IIRC it's only like $2.99 per packet. You will need about 1-2 packets per wheel.

EBC yellows are good stuff, I have used those myself in the past.

What is the difference between EBC RedStuff and GreenStuff? Which one should I choose? Or Can I do this EBC for the front and Akebono for the back??? does anyone in there have that kind of setup???
Thanks,
Andy

Green=Stock
Red=Performance
Yellow=Track
Note: Both Red and Yellow are a ceramic base pad. Check above for differences between the two and several of my older posts. Personally, you can't go wrong with either the Red or Yellow. And OH YEAH CWW, you are DEAD ON about the anti squeal paste. Worth its weight in GOLD.

What you want is the RedStuff's or YellowStuff's. The Reds are street-designed ceramics, they are a bit less heat resistant as a tradeoff for better grabbiness when they're cold. The Yellows are race pads, they're a composite made of ceramic material and kevlar, and are very highly heat fade resistant. They perform better, but they're pricier. You probably don't need these, honestly the Reds would work just fine even if you do track the car.

I had heard the exact thing, several times over. I tried them thinking if they're too noisy i'd switch them out. the yellows are excellent and they DO NOT squeak. I used my old rotors and the new EBC yellow with plenty of anti squeak, not on my car at least. The first week i heard some squeaking, the new pads were breaking into the old rotors. Since then i have not heard the brakes squeak, 10k mi now.
